I'm thinking about trying this. What string size do you use? How does it work for you? Thanks!

I do, but not on a tele. Webstrings 12-52 (unwound 3rd) on one of my LP customs. Works good, fairly close to the tension of 10s in standard on my main custom. On a fender scale you might try 11s and see how it feels.

My Charvel 3A frankenstrat is strung with a set of 12-56s and I keep it tuned to DADGAD. You will need to keep an eye on the neck and adjust the tension and action, but it should be fine.

How did it work? Did it have any drawbacks? Did you expand the nut slots?

Sometimes I put a set of 12's on my '70 Strat and tune it UP to C.
Modal like this: CC GG CC unisons.
Fenders usually take this kind of abuse in stride.
I don't see how tuning down is really gonna be a problem.
My main guitar, a '60 Strat has been strung 14 18 28w 38 48 62 or 64, concert pitch for 30 years, and it's fine.

Thanks guys. I was somewhat lazily wondering whether there might be intonation or other such issues. I will surf across juststrings.com and select a heavy set or two for my experimentation.
I've done this on a beater tele with D'Addario 12s. Guitar had been previously set up for 10s. Tension felt about the same to me, so never felt the need to get it set up again.
