What would be a decent wireless system for guitarin $100-$200 range, if there is such an animal? I'd be using it primarily for rehearsing with the band. I'd be running it through my Peavey Class 50 2x12.

How could I forget about E-bay? I'll give it a look. I did a search on here and it seems alot of folks like the Line6 X2. Gotta look at that one too.

The x2 sounds great and is super simple to use.
I have a spare one that I would be willing to sell if you want one.

After having the EV 1500, Sennheiser g2, I'll take the X2 any day and over any cable. Not that some cables can sound better, but nothing I have heard beats the X2 for wireless solutions. YMMV. Only downside is they all eat batteries. http://www.thegearpage.net/board/images/icons/icon9.gif

The X2 is a great wireless system, at a great price.
Also, remember that it was designed and developed independently. Line6 bought the company after they made it big.

x2 for $199 new. Less if you wait until GC or SA have a coupon.

I'll second (or third) the advice for the X2...great system with absolutely pristine sound.
Here's my solution for the battery eating thing - I use a regular 9v power supply for the receiver (it has a standard 2.1mm plug), and I bought three Maha 9.6v rechargeables (and a smart charger). These batteries work great for the transmitter (almost 4 hours a charge), and in a pinch, I can use them for the receiver as well (about 2 hours a charge for that application). Regular (8.something volt) 9volt rechargeables will NOT work well for the X2...something to keep in mind.

I've never had any problems with running 8.6v batteries with my X2 rack. In fact they work great, I don't know where you're getting that information.

The 500mAh Lithium-Polymer rechargeables work perfectly in the X2 transmitters. I get about 5 hours per charge on my XDS-Plus which is about the same as I was able to get out of an Energizer alkaline. I have two rechargeables that I alternate, so I always have one available that is fully charged at the beginning of a gig. These LiPo batteries are 8.4V and maintain a very stable voltage down to the point where they are nearly discharged. The X2 transmitters work happily down to 6.8V according to Line6.
The only problem is that the battery gauge is not 'correct' for these batteries, although you do see it go down and can still get an idea when your battery is getting ready to be recharged.

In my hardcore band both I and the bassist use wireless units. We both use the Shure PGX 14 (think that's what it's called) mainly because it was the only wireless stuff my local dealer had. Haven't had problem yet and have been running around like mad for at least 6 shows with it. Have to say though we only do small club gigs. And yeah. Whatever wireless you use I suggest getting a round of tape with it to make sure it sticks to your guitar strap.

So is the X2 better/equal to the Shure or Sunheiser? Hope someone has compared these as I need one real quick.

After 2 other brands, I settled on the X2. Excellent in all regards except the plastic housing that I'm always afraid I'm going to squash on my pedalboard.

The X2 really is the one to beat. As to rechargeable batteries, I've never had any luck with them in a wireless unit. There was an article somebody posted a few months ago explaining wireless and rechargeable batteries, but I don't remember where it was. There are a few that work but in general it seems like it's better to avoid them.

Regarding the X2 eating batteries, I think the reason it sounds so good is because it uses a bit more juice to send its signal.

Is there a problem with distance, as others have stated with the X2? Because the unit is on the floor? I need to move at least 50ft at a gig.

I also get >5 hrs with the LiPo batteries for the X2.
This is what I'm waiting for (at least for the initial reviews..):

50 feet with line of sight (nothing blocking your signal) is not a problem for the base model X2. However, once you introduce ballast like people dancing on the floor, PAs, etc, between you and the receiver, you'll likely cut that range down. You might need to upgrade to a unit with a big external antenna.
I've said it several times before: spend the extra cash on Shure PGX system, batteries last for like 8 hours and it has 100 meters range. I've never experienced dropouts of any kind. It simply rules.

I agree, way cool if it delivers the goods. But, no dealers listed yet and they don't answer my emails to them, so....:huh
