So, in anticipation of my Red Witch Empress Chorus's arrival this week, I am trying to determine where to place it in my chain. I know there is no "correct" answer to this, but I'm always second guessing myself on the "before the dirt, or after?" question. My general tone leans toward a moderate level of distortion via a tubescreamer pushing an OCD. My Phase 90 and Vibe both definitely, to my ears, sound better before the dirt, but chorus pedals always make me wonder.

After dirt before delay (or in your FX loop if you have one)
It's a good idea to put filters like phaser/vibe/wah before dirt so you don't end up filtering the additional harmonics, but modulation after.

:agree I always run chorus after dirt, and phase/vibe before.

Guitar Player even recommends that you put all Modulation effects after your Distortion Pedals because they prefer unmodulated signals.

Harmonics generated by a distortion pedal bring richness to any chorus, phase, or vibe pedal afterward.

I always run my chours after all distortion.. I.e. Run it through the effects loop if your amp has one.

Chorus before dirt here.

I just tried several chains and I always prefer all my modulated effects before dirt. I really don't like the metallic tones that dirt into chorus gives.

My Red Witch Empress is the first box in my effects loop chain...wah/compression/boost/fuzz are in the chain pre-amp...chorus to phaser to delay (x2) in the effects chain.

It works for me, but ymmv.
