Usually people probably look for a smooth, round character when it comes to ODs. What would you guys suggest for the more gritty (or even sputtery) side of things ? An OD that can add a slight bit of grit to an already breaking-up tone (think Plexi etc.) ?

A RAT or any of its copies. Just play with the gain and/or your guitar's volume control.

A treble booster would be a good bet. I also like a mild sounding germanium fuzz pedal for that type of sound. The Keeley fuzz head is excellent as well as the Analogman Sunface NKT 275.

I've got plenty of fuzzes already and thought to get something along the lines of an OD for a change. I've got a MIJ TS-10 already and never use it because to me it's just a bit too smooth.

I'm quite impressed with the Catalinbread DLS from what I've heard and seen on the web so far, but it's probably too 'nice' as well ?
