View Full Version : Thin Lizzy 1975 "Live from Derby"- What speakers
Just listening to the "Live at Derby" extra CD that came with the "Live and Dangerous" DVD. I really love the sound of the guitars. Really fat. Just wondering what speakers they used in there cab's. I would guess they were Celestions, but which one's. Anyone know?

From an old "International Musician and Recording World" that I bought back in the mid 80's:
At the Reading Festival in 1975,both Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson are described as using Marshall 100 watt Lead amps(most likely metal panel 1959 model Super Leads) into Fender Dual Showman Cabs that were loaded with two 15" Gauss speakers each. Both guitarists were also using Les Paul Deluxes at this show, according to the same article.I always thought Gorham was the Deluxe guy,but then I never did get to see Brian Robertson with Lizzy. Both times that I did see them, in '77 and '79,it was Marshall stacks all the way.JPW,that bonus disc is a good one!

Hey thanks for the info! That Live at Derby recording has some BIG FAT NASTY, blow a Dual Rectifier off the planet sound. Dam now I'll have to get a 2x15!
What new production 15" speaker would sound like a Gauss 15"? I don't think they make them anymore.

That I don't know, but I'm sure they're still available used on Ebay and other online sources. From what I remember, they were high efficiency speakers along the lines of JBL and EV speakers that saw more use as PA and bass speakers than anything else.Maybe check with Ted Weber-he seems to be doing reproductions of just about every other speaker, and could probably point you in the right direction if nothing else.Good luck with the search!
