At BB Kings in NYC. His first show on the east coast in 10 years. Man he can play and sing!!! He has some killer blues/rock songs, why isn't he more popular in the states????

Good question. Seems like every video I see of him is from Japan, Spain, Chile, etc. etc. I think the guy is a excellent hand. Like you say, a much better than average voice (now if John Mayer could sing like Ritchie Kotzen......). I could listen to him play a Telecaster for hours on end. I wish he would have gotten an invite to Cross Roads, or some such event. Exposure like that can really turn the tide. And if anybody is biased...... Poison was just something he did as a kid for a very short time.

I know a lot of people aren't into this sort of thing, but his 1990 REH instructional video is absolutely killer. He's a total natural as a teacher, has lots of good ideas, and the playing is spectacular. And his Electric Joy CD is a complete masterpiece.

It's my understanding that he would still be playing with Poison if he wouldn't have been banging the drummers wife. Maybe thats why he's not popular in the states. Nobody thats married wants to jam with him...

Pretty sure there's more to that story, but not worthy of the tabloid research.

Your probably right, just heard one side of the story. To his credit, I thought he took Poison in a better direction with the cd I heard.

Two of my friend's went to the show at BB's and both said it was FANTASTIC! One compared Richie to a perfect blend of Stevie Wonder and Steve Vai. Sounds like a fair suggestion. Richie is one of my favorite players.

And Stevie Wonder is a great songwriter.

The show was crowded but not sold out Probably 300 people or so but all very dedicated fans. It was one of the best shows I have seen in a while. I could not see his gear to well but he played his sig tele most of the night through his Cornford amp and it looked like he had a timefactor on top of the half stack but I could not see for sure from where I was sitting.

my thoughts exactly. His voice is killer, he can hit the Chris Cornell notes, and then he can play crazy guitar licks. I don't understand why he isn't huge in the states. His songwriting on Mother Head's Family Reunion is fantastic
