i saw this guitar for the first time about 2 years ago, and i was instantly drawn to it. very unique for a fender. i ended up picking it up yesterday, and am totally stoked. it's a 2001 namm showmaster neck thru. body wings and neck are mahogany. fretboard is (i think) cocobola. 25 1/2 scale, 60's style neck, locking tuners. it's like having vintage tone, and the ergonomics of a late 80's jackson. very comfy, and light. i don't have a digital scale, but judging against my modern eagle (8.4 lbs), i'd have to guess the showmaster weighs about 7 lbs. rings and sustains like a bell. the vintage output pickups, combined with the 25 1/2 scale give it a nice bright p90 tone. i have always found p90 guitars to lean more towards humbucker tones that got a little too dark/muddy. this guitar sits more in between humbucker and single coil tones.

Is that one a custom shop guitar ? If so, which builder?
Nice vibe,love the concept.
From your pics, that looks a lot like a Madagascar RW fretboard to me.
The neck joint is usually a very nice tenon not neck thru on that style, but anything is possible with all the talent that is at Fender.

Very nice score, enjoy your new guitar. Thanks for sharing.

still waiting for confirmation on the builder and materials from fender, but according to the dealer that hand picked it from the winter namm 01 show, it is mahagony, and cocobola fingerbard, built by mark duncan.

Very nice score, enjoy your new guitar. Thanks for sharing.it is custom shop. pretty sure it was built by mark duncan. not sure about it being a set neck. i've never seen a set neck with a heel that scooped. i can't imagine how there would be enough wood for it. i'd love to know, but fender says any custom stuff or one-offs from pre 2004 have no records. i'm going to have the dealer try to get info through the custom shop.

spoke to the dealer that hand picked it at the winter namm show. here is his recollection. neck and body are light weight mahogony (he wasn't sure if it was set neck or neck thru). fretboard is cocobolo, pickups are custom wound p90s, and the bridge was manufactured specifically for this guitar as fender didn't have a wrap around with intonatable g/b strings.

Piece of crap.

Better send it to me for proper disposal.

Sweet looking Custom Showmaster!! I just got one myself, a 2004 with a single hum, intonable wraptail, figured lacewood top and custom Midnite Peacock Translucent paint. Mine is a set neck, ebony board with tribal inlay at the 12th. Super underrated guitars from what I can tell. Yours just looks like it would be an incredible guitar to play! Congrats!

it's definately a very easy guitar to play. it's lightness and comfy ergonomics have made it the guitar i pickup to play first.
