this is something I've never really learnt about, for some reason, and know I'm curious. How do you recognise different woods? which are common for certain applications? (It's usually maple or rosewood for a fingerboard isn't it?) what are the properties of th different woods in their various places? all that kinda stuff...

so any help or links would be very much appreciated!

one specific question was about my 60s reissue MIM strat - it has a rather orange neck, what might that be?

your 60's mex RI has a maple/rw neck.

the "orange" neck is because of the "aged" feel they tried to give using a yellowish stain with the lacquer.

btw, warmoth is the best place to learn about what concerns
a guitar player regarding tone woods...
