Saw Howard Alden the other night, playing with Jay Geils and Jerry Bowdoin in the New Guitar Summit. All three of them are great guitarists, but when Jay and Jerry left the stage at one point to allow Howard to work alone with the rhythm section on a samba number, I was just floored. In fact, I think everyone in the place was.
I've heard my share of good players, but this was ridiculous. I'd imagine that the guy's been the reason for a lot of "Good Guitar For Sale Cheap" ads. Totally demoralizing experience, but I can't wait to hear more of Howard's stuff. Anyone got a recommendation for the best CD to buy first?
