That's Henry Kaiser, grandson of Heny J. Kaiser, father of modern shipbuilding. I don't know what anyone else thinks, nor do I care, but it's apparent to me that he used some of his wealth to buy his way into the music biz.

How is this any different than the shredding videos that many TGPers rip on? It's just a bunch of noise...... But noise made with the hallowed Dumble.

I agree that that video is not easy or enjoyable (for me) to listen to :)

But I don't think it's fair to say he bought his way into the biz. He has played with Richard Thompson, David Lindley, David Torn, Nels Cline, Bob Weir, Steve Smith, Zakir Hussain, Greg Osby, the list goes on...

I don't think those guys would've played with him if he couldn't cut it and was just buying his way into the music biz. He does do some pretty out there stuff with the guitar which I respect and enjoy. I've also played with him once years back and he could definitely play and was a super nice guy to boot...

Here's a link to his bio on his website:

I guess I should have known TGP-ers wouldn't miss anything that's Dumble-related on YT. :Spank

I'd not seen it before. The guy's playing reminded me of the days of dial up internet and the sound of modems connecting.

HK's got his mellow side, too:

I agree with entraind, Henry's stuff is not my cup o' tea, but in his various YouTube vids, there are moments where it's apparent that he's got some chops.

Henry Kaiser is a great player doing his own thing, as well as being an avid gear collector and music listener and a very nice and humble guy.

Also, I was under the impression that he really did not inherit any of the Kaiser family fortune. This could be wrong, but I seem to recall this fact from multiple sources in the past.

A remarkably uninformed opinion. Just wow...

His father actually created the first HMO, Kaiser Permanente. Jr. is also the only person to have ever recorded music at the South Pole. He's a really cool dude, actually. Just a gear nerd like the rest of us.

I don't care where Henry Kaiser got his money.

He teamed up with David Lindley for the Madagascar projects. That's good enough for me.

A remarkably uninformed opinion. Just wow...I totally agree Wayne - c'mon Annoobis, you don't mean that, right? Henry Kaiser has had a long and highly varied career, and he's a gear head like most of us here at TGP. One look at his discography and you'll see that he frequents many stages that you just couldn't buy your way on to ... Jeez, the guy records with Lindley and with Richard Thompson for 'cryin out loud. He shoots underwater video for Werner Hertzog, AND played on the soundtrack to "Grizzly Man" w/ Richard Thompson.

He may come from a wealthy background, but he can play, and he has cool taste in gear and music.

Interestingly, HAD toured with Buffy St. Marie, maybe in '69 or '70. He actually was a professional guitarist at one time.

Thanks, Dana O.
