View Full Version : A sacrilegious thought about the joys of high end GAS

As much as I love playing a great new guitar through a wonderful amplifier, none of the GAS and the rabbit-eared tone chasing comes even close to the joy found in picking up a guitar and learning something that I didn't know before.

+ 1000 if you don't have good tone right when you start to play ask yourself if the tone you have can be used to play something unique and different. Can that raspy trebly sound maybe inspire a Keef riff or that bassy fuzzy sound help write a sabbath type dirge. Maybe too many people are trying to sound like something else and not like something personal. Just a thought.
ayep, when you learn a new way to turn a phrase with your fingers, it is quite pleasing.

Yes we forget that.
I'm on a el cheapo guitar kick right now anyway.

Now you're just being weird. If there's something out there you don't already know how to play, it's because your guitar is the wrong color.

Yeah ... if picking up one of your mojo soaked guitars ...:-)
(just teasing... totally agree Jim ...)

While I agree with Jim's point, I find that new guitars (amps, pedals, strings, . . . ) often come with new songs in them.

Or a new technique. I finally got a good Tele. So, I've hidden all of my picks. I never you could get such awesome sounds out of a guitar with just your fingers! Granted, it does work on any guitar, but it really stands out on a good Tele.

That feeling is what keeps me in check and reminds me why I started playing in the first place. A beautiful feeling for me. Gear is great, checking out and buying gear (or building, I'm a DIY pedal guy), but the expansion of my musical mind is always where the most satisfaction is for me.

Also the surprised feeling I get when I ACCIDENTALLY play a killer note or two!

:agreeAlso, I find that if I set one guitar aside for awhile and focus on another,I find new stuff in the first gtr when I come back to it.

Precisely! I write a new song almost every time I get a new guitar.
