Tim on a PRS & Jackson on his small body Gibson Sig
Warning-it's a poor quality Youtube ... but hey, it's two top cats having fun.
(give the great groove a few seconds before it cuts to the solos ..)
BTW .. the band is killing good ... they all shine a little in this vid ..

Glenn Hughes doesn't sound too bad at the end there either : )

I hate to say it, but I'm not familiar with Tim Pierce. Really good player. Where would I have heard him before?

dig that burning tone he gets! It kinda starts broken up but goes a bit further a few measures in. That was 2 bad-@$$ solos!

I dig the way Paul starts his solo with just the drums .. some very cool confidence there...
It's a MO horn players often do, but you rarely hear guitar players do such ..

The best part of the clip for me was the opening drum fill. Simple and full of soul.

Is it me or is the first bend Tim takes slightly sharp?

Lot's of guitary soloing there.

Yep! Thanks for the vid.

For my dime, I really dug Paul on this. It stood out.

I'm a big fan of Tim, but that particular work didn't grab me like a lot of his stuff does. He played guitar on a bluesy piece that was a demo for Rode mics several years ago that was just killer.. I'll see if I can dig it up and post a link.

Yep ... not only the fill but the groove Steve lays down ...
Simple, solid and fat as can be .... stole my heart immediately ..

& yeah, Tim's first bend is a little over pitch. I noticed too ...but no big deal...

I couldn't find it online anymore, but I have the mp3. If someone wants to post it for folks to listen to I'll email it to them.

For years, i thought of Paul Jackson Jr. as strictly a rhythm player... until I saw the Xotic effects demo vids.

Nice clip btw! Took me a while to figure out they were covering a Toto song from the 70s.

Pretty good. Here's Toto doing the original live in 1979 for those who're interested:

Ironically, I always thought it was Paul Jackson Jr. playing rhythm guitar on some of my favorite Michael McDonald and Michael Jackson tracks when it was actually Steve Lukather.

So one guy I thought was a rhythm specialist - actually a damn good lead player.

One guy I thought was a lead specialist - played a lot of great rhythm guitar on hit tunes.

Well he PJJr did play alot of the rythmparts on MJs albums
So you might not have been wrong

What I absolutely worships with PJJr is that his sound is always present and spontaniusly rigth on the time.
Not behind or after. *dak* right in the face.
I've been a huge fan for years of his rythm work.

There's a killer youtube somewhere of SL taking a great solo
just skankin' out some funk roffs... it's actually the part of his playing skills
I like the best ...
See if I can dig it up when I get a moment

Yeah, he did play on a lot of MJ tracks, but I was surprised it was SL who played on "Human Nature" and not PJJr for example.

Same with "I Keep Forgettin'" (McDonald). Also several Al Jarreau tracks (eg "We're In This Love Together"). Never associated those funky guitars with Toto.. ;)

Hmmmm really? I know Lukather played the rhythm on 'Beat It' but Paul Jackson Jr was ALL OVER THE PLACE back in the day and he has a pretty signature style. If it wasn't Paul it was probably David Williams (RIP).

I know, right? I, too, had no idea how much rhythm guitar the guy played.

Lukather played on three Thriller tracks:

I still find new surprises every time I click a link on his Sessions page:

Thanks Joseph, That's how real deal cats do a "jam", I think this was a birthday party. Man both Tim and Paul are great players, but Paul is the one that really touched me especially with the Wes chord solo stuff at the begining of his solo.

I have played Georgy Porgy in various bands over the years, just recently brought it into a kind of Jazzy/R&B thing I am currently doing.
What a great tune, and a blast to solo on the outro changes.

great playing, great musicians... I personally would not purchase a recording of this kinda thing... sounds like the kind of music they play on the Weather Channel...

but they are certainly very talented, accomplished musicians and I respect that
