I'm not sure if this is the correct section but I wanted to mention that I had great experience at Westwood Music today. I took my son in to get his first guitar and Fred hooked us up with a nice, inexpensive Strat-style guitar. He and everyone there was a pleasure to deal with and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I couldn't justify getting my son the brown Deluxe in the back room but it was tempting.

I've never had anything BUT good experiences at Westwood, and Fred is not only a local legend but one of the sweetest guys ever.

Fred's great. One of my favorite shops. A local treasure.

I love that store. Fred doesn't focus on big name gear, he focuses on great gear. I have discovered lots of great stuff at that store through the years.

I really need to get up there again, it's been years unfortunately. I'm in Long Beach and it's tough to get there unless I specifically plan a trip.

Anyway, what I like about your story is how great the owner of this legendary store was at finding your son a beginner strat. This is the same treatment you get from him whether you're a superstar or a kid. Fred's a good dude.

Another good word for Fred. My first apartment in Los Angeles in 1973 was on Gayley, a block away. I've seen him while playing in church in Malibu. The best professional clientele and service. Rick Turner ran the repair shop for years. Our own Brian T works there on Sundays I believe.

I used to live in Westwood and whenever I came in, Fred would show things that he thought were cool even though I wasn't able to buy. A few times, I just missed being there at the same time as Joni Mitchell and Richard Thompson. I can only imagine that Fred didn't treat me any differently. After his surgery, many years later, I stopped in and he said he remembered me, but couldn't remember my name. Then, he proceeded to show me new equipment that he thought was cool. That place feels like home.

Fred is the man. One of the nicest people in the music business.

If Fred's there I can never get out in under an hour, because he'll come up to me and say, "Need some quarters for the meter? I got some stuff you NEED to play"

And it's been that way for the two decades I've known him

Another +1 for Fred. The nicest guy I've ever met in a store store, (or most other places for that matter.)
