It was a guilty pleasure pedal on my board, but I flipped it in favor of a little more variance in the tone circuit.

I'm borrowing a friends right now and I really like it too. Way more useful tones than i expected. I was waiting for a one trick pony and am pleasantly surprised.
I have one and its good pedal but its a bit too compressed, ive gigged with it a few times..its not quite cutting it for me right now....

I'm having trouble cutting through with a live set up too... On it's own, it rocks. As at 3 piece, it rocks. But throw another guitarist in there, and you get mush. Great as a rhythm pedal, but to use it as a lead tone, you need to add something after it to boost some frequencies.
Unless someone else here has a better idea?

get a tube factor...shouldnt need to boost anything

I had one for 2 weeks & returned it.
Too scooped, not any where near enough volume on tap (maxed was barely unity), & too bright past 10 O' clock on the tone dial.
Well made, but not much more useful than a stock DS-1 to me.
I was using it w/ an LP w/ Duncan Pearly Gates into the clean channel of hotrod devilles.

Is there any super high gain distortion pedal with fender tweed dynamics? I'm not sure such a beast has ever existed. :dunno

I hate this pedal. Very DS1-ish.

yes, americananalog, a hughes and kettner tube factor is the best medium and high gain 2 channel pedal ive ever tried, especially for live use...trust me, i can get satch tones, herring tones, ej tones, gilmour tones, and best of al, my own...its got a nice voicing knob that can sound scooped or ts9ish with a good bit of midrange....i replaced the tube with a mesa 12ax7 and it sounds great, much better than my stock ds-1 + my stock ts9 dx, but take the tube factor + the stock ts9 dx= versatility beyond belief...it has literally turned my hot rod deluxe into a three-channel monster

I really wanted to like the thing and in the music room it was fine, but at band practice it got boxed up and then sold.

man im getting sick of people bashing ds-1's or oss pedals in general, they arent my first choice pedal, but i have used it in front of hundreds of people with great results, its your playing guys, dont forget that, and yes my ds-1 was ought for 10 bucks and its taiwan...thought the ds-1 was WAY more consistent than half of the ullshit outique crap ive bought in the last year or two

IMO the pedal really shines with mid heavy amps like an AC30. Put it in front of a fender and it's nowhere near as good.

That's essentially what it is. That's Joe's main distortion tone, so it's not surprising that was the tone they shot for. What works for Joe and Vai may not work for us all.

I actually don't mind the DS-1, I've owned several modified ones (including the Satchurator) and I enjoy them with a nice flat clean channel (they meshed perfectly with my old Reverend Hellhound).
What frustrated me about the Satchurator was that they completely embraced the DS-1 as what it is and simply spent more attention on the "More" function. There weren't any revisions to the Tone and zero revisions to the Gain.
that said, it was far to bright for my amp and I wanted a little more variance in the tone circuit.
If Analogman ever decides to do a mod of this pedal, I would certainly buy again.

Me too! It ranks as possibly the WORST pedal I've tried to date. Very fake, harsh sounding. Mind boggling to me.

You should invest the $25 in the Monte Allums kit, it makes a $40 pedal sound like a $200 one. Easy to knock out in an afternoon even if you don't have soldering skills.

If you use it as intended it is great. if not then it is down to you. This is voiced like a tweaked DS1 but massively more gain available to respond to Satch's legato lead technique.
