Sometimes I forget how good these guys were- no staring at their shoes being introspective and what have you. Four outstanding musicians entertaining and showing how to have fun, put on a good show and rock their collective asses off! Live on Ed Sullivan:

Great stuff. Carmine is on fire. Love the snare sound. Ed had some cool music on his show. Thanks

Dude looks like Wolfman Jack!
I hear shades of what would later become Boston's Foreplay/Long Time in the intro.
The All American Rejects perform like VF did then. So the new generation "gets it."
Both bands are hamming it up. But that's entertainment.

I actually played with a version of this band for a short time back in the 80's. They were a great band back in the day.
I saw them back in the days of the Alexandria Roller Rink
if my memory serves me correctly the opening act was Ultimate Spinach.
They were great!

was there anyone in the world more square than Ed Sullivan?
everytime I see this clip I can't help but think of the Seinfeld "puffy shirt" episode!

Yes! Saw 'em back in '69, I was 9 years old and mom would take all of us kids to concerts back in the day....this was a great band....and this was the ONLY time I've ever seen anyone play like JIMI on bass! Feedback and all...stupendous musicians, I'm still impressed.

Blackmore has reminisced that Vanilla Fudge had a huge influence on Deep Purple - back in their days on the "Tetragrammaton" record label...
P.S. - The first truly big concert I played on back when I was a teenager was as an opening act for Vanilla Fudge... They handed us our asses with ease - it was a pretty brutal learning experience... :)

Also saw Cactus open for Jimi.
They were a hell of a group and put 110% into a performance. They would be successful even today.

I think I've watched this 10 times since its been posted. I've always loved their version of that song. It was a very intense performance - all of them look very caught up in the moment.

Their first record was a classic and EVERYBODY was covering them.
I was working on a music store in New London CT then and we couldn't get B-3s, Marshall stacks and Telecaster Basses fast enough. We sold tons of Guild Starfires, and ES 335s and 345s then as well.
Everybody all of a sudden wanted to play bass and tried to play like Tim Bogert.
Prior to that the standard drum kit was a 4 or 5 piece with a 20" or 22" kick. Carmine really changed all that and BIG drums really got popular.
Amazing theater and amazing music.
