I love EH and the Genius of Mike Matthews, and hope we sell a ton of these (to a new market!) but I can't stand that sound.

I kinda like it, it could be a lot of fun. I am no fan of autotuned vocals, but it looks like it can do way more than that so I would love to just screw around with it. In the demo it looks like you could even cop a pseudo talk box sound. and vocoders can be really cool when used tastefully.

I know vocalist who went off on another guitarist I know at a local pawn shop.
The guitarist was bashing auto tune and complaining he wants to hear un-fx vocals. The vocalist told him to sell his chorus and delay pedals because he is tired of hearing a processed sound and everyone should play the acoustic. Now he was just trying to make a point. He actually got the guy thinking different. He told the guitarist that a vocalist should have the option to use effcts as a guitar player does.
It was pretty funny. I don't like the way auto tune is use in every song of that genre, but I also don't like the wah wah used in every Kirk Hammet solo, but I still own a wah.

It's odd to me that the auto tune thing just caught on in a large way. Cher did it in the early 80s (I think), but it has been somewhat dormant since then.
I think it sounds silly, but I think that about most fads. It's gonna seriously date the songs that use it. Not that that's an issue in music now.

I love good old school rap, they don't attempt to sing. And I love classic rock when they don't attempt to Rap (sorry Geddy!!!!)
Cher was enough of the auto tune, that was cool, now move on.
I should try using the auto tune with guitar, that could be odd... maybe on a fretless guitar? EH should put in a key of E and A "BLUES WANKER" setting, so a guy like me can play those blues solos without hitting a klunker.

An eyeroll in response to a blanket statement about an entire genre of music is warranted and doesn't really scream "offended" in my book.

I'd use the auto-tune for the "mic check one two one TWO TWO TWO" but for anything else I would be too embarrassed.
Other than that feature, 'tis an awesome pedal.

I'm not callin anyone dumbass, nor will I say that you shouldn't use effects on vocals, but you gotta have tin ears to like this crap IMO. Use good sounding effects at least, this thing sounds horrid!! I gotta agree with analog mike here!

and as much as i would never use this, it is another huge step foreword for EHX. They've been popping out innovative tools at a pretty rapid rate lately. +1 in my book.

This idea has merit, really. Someone like Adrian Belew could make some unusual sounds that way.

I don't know, I think you could rock some cool Frampton-like tones with that thing. That's pretty cool, I think.
I'm no fan of auto-tune as a mainstay vocal effect, but it's occasionally an interesting garnish to the sound for certain genres of music.

My sentiments exactly. :bkw
The word apocalyptic comes to mine. RAP sucks for many reasons...one it glorifies gang violence. What's worse is these labels are capitalizing off the glorification of gang lifestyle. What is with this trend of auto-tune and vocoder in the music industry today? I dont get it, everybody and their grandma has to use this because they cant sing for shit. As long as you have a marketable image, you too can get on the fake-ass talentless Auto-Tune vocal bandwagon, and make millions doing so. Mediocrity thrives as long as the masses keep buying into the media hype.

Just another lame effect, but associating it with Rap is an insult to the Auto-tune. Quoting Greg Allman, "Rap is crap". How's that for a blanket statement about an entire genre of "music"?

I foresee auto-tune vocals as the defining effect of this era, and in a few more years it will be shunned like 50's slapback, 60's fuzz, 70's phaser, & 80's chorus for a time, and be extremely uncool for everyone not just us TGP dorks. Then, in about 2025 or 2030, it will have a neat retro feel to it, and everyone will rediscover their youth with a new generation of auto-tune magicalness.

Auto tune doesn't sux...just the songs that it's mostly been used on..it's a tool.
I'm sure Radiohead, Sonic Youth or Spiritualized could write a good song and find a cool use for it...

Exactly.
I think it's a cool pedal idea and am glad Electro-Harmonix continues to expand their palette of effects. Kudos to them.
I hate rap as much as the next guy but I'd honestly rather listen to a few auto-tuned vocals (used as an effect, not as a crutch for bad singing) than another middle-aged white dude playing blues solos. Talk about lame and over-used.

My wife came in just now and she told me to turn that sh*t down. I guess musical taste has its limitations.
Rap is a form of musical expression and if you cant feel it or relate to it...... its like some people cant stand classical music. But its not because there isnt any talent in it. I will say all the hood/gang/profanity crap that is 80% of the lyrics is in my opinion way excessive and offensive.. but it is also part of its attitude and vibe. I like some pac every once and again... lol
I bet this pedal would sound bad ass on a harmonica solo...

Rock was intimidating and offensive when it came out... the country crowd sh*t a brick. And before that the blues was "noisy devils music".. im jus sayN
The pedal is just a tool. People without talent have no talent with or without it, so who cares?
