Hahn 228 vs. 1229, tonal differences

Hey all. I'm consumed by tele lust, and Mr. Hahn's guitars are most intriguing. Both models look real nice ... anyone here play a 1229 enough to comment on how it differs from the vintage, ash-bodied style?

I remember wichita talking about the 1229 after trying one at Winter NAMM. With the mahoghany body, he described it as sort of Melody Maker-esque tonewise. He did a youtube demo from NAMM of it.
