Hey guys this is my second post so bare with me. I'm new to recording.

I searched through about 100 post that were linked to mbox 2 pro but they all seemed be to be about the same thing, should they get one, will it work if they get it. I didn't see technical pages. Needless to say I did not just click to threading. I searched..

I am trying to record my DJ. He has a stand alone system. 2 techniques 1200s, a pioneer DJM400 mixer to a serato sl1 interface, running scratch live vinals, through scratch live software, on a macbook pro maxed. so his system is fine.

Whenever I connect his master output to my s/pdif input on my mbox 2 pro I could not pick him up in the mixer like I can with my xlr mic or midi keyboard.

Well he is not here now and I've done some testing on my own. The only test unit I have is my sony stereo receiver, when I connect my main output out of the receiver, it should also pick that up in the s/pdif input of the mbox right? BTW the input is RCA.

I hope This mumbo jumbo makes sense. If anyone knows useful links. please post. Pro Tools 8 is what I'm using as far as software. So if you know good free tutorials on pro tools 8 for s/pdif recording please help me..

Thank you very much
Daniel

???

Are you attempting to just connect an RCA to an RCA and hoping for signal?

Even though the SPDIF connector is RCA, its a digital signal... not analog. So you wouldn't get anything from that if you plug an analog source into it.

If the DJ mixer & stereo receiver do actually have digital outputs, then you likely need to just select & assign the proper input in protools software, and adjust the clock source accordingly.

It just looks like an RCA input. You need something with a digital output. I bought a Midiman Flying Cow. They don't make them anymore but you can pick them up on Ebay from time to time. You'll also need to pick up SPDIF cables. You can get those at Radio Shack.
