OK, so I have a fairly humble recording setup now: Echo Audiofire 4, SM57, e906, and a few nice amps and guitars. I'm using Reaper for the time being and mixing on my pretty bad computer speakers. I'd like to get a pair of some nice powered monitors, but I'm not sure where to really start.
My friend has some M-Audio StudioPro monitors that seem OK, but I don't know much about monitors.
Any advice?

Here's the thing - you're not going to get great monitors for $100.00.
What you need to do is buy a set you can afford and listen to a lot of music that is similar to what you want to record on the monitors that you buy.
Get used to what the bass response is, the high end, etc... and when you mix keep those things in mind.
Knowing about your monitors is as important as having a good set.
You may get lucky and find something like a set of Event 20/20s unpowered for that.

I have a $1500 pair of MSP10's, and yet I do a good chunk of my mixing on $20 computer speakers(with a subwoofer) that I picked up at Staples.
Considering most of today's music is mixed down to MP3's and listened to on shitty home speakers, might as well go with what your audience is going to listen to it on.
Sort of the aurotone logic, if you can make it sound good on crap, it'll sound good on anything.

monitors are uber-important...BUT...if you pay attention to the quality of what is going into the recording, and listen on multiple systems, you should walk away with a recording that is nice enough.

Some of the best monitors I've heard are actually just audiophile grade bookshelf speakers.

I've heard these before they're not Dynaudio but there not cheeso speakers from best buy either, there not bad for the $$
$100 for powered monitors maybe if there stolen and missing the amps.

Not powered, but you can find a pair of Tannoy PBM-6.5s for that and they sound mighty fine.
