Last week I met up with Ed, and did a great video interview with him - about his music, last couple of CDs, and new projects.

I asked him a lot about "Dog House" and "Less is Seldom More" as well as some general questions about his music, playing styles, and recording. Probably much of it is already known by folks here.

Check it out here (http://tedmphoto.blogspot.com/2009/08/ed-degenaro-guitarist-and-musician.html).

The bit about mp3s of the backing tracks being available to owners of the CD is very interesting. I don't know that this has been done before. I know I will enjoy playing along with those tracks, and I think Ed and the band will be surprised to see takes other players might put on these rhythms.

Later in the week, I will post a great video interview with Andy Marshall talking about amps, THD, and some very cool new stuff coming out.

AFAIK, the only other player to do this with an official release is Will Ray. But, maybe some Vai stuff too, as I've heard BT's that were far too close to not be the real deal.

Trust me when I say, it's a lot tougher than it would initially appear. That Ed's a darn monster, I tells ya. I tried all weekend to get something worth a rat's ass down to post here. Not one take was TGP worthy. In fact, it remided me of walking through GC on a Saturday. I'll keep at it though. I think the one thing is that the mix is so dense with sounds here, there & everywhere that you are pretty much confined to playing only where he plays. So, you have to sit and learn the tunes quite well.

No, but I left my favorite mic pre and voice channel strip at home ;)

Thanks all for the interview feedback. I was not meaning to criticize Ed at all for playing slower on LISM, actually wanted to know if it was hard for him to slow down. I am sure that he could get back to his full speed within days, if he wanted to, and that his "slower" playing is faster than my fastest playing anytime.

It was just something I noticed listening to the 2 CDs back and forth, surely others have noticed this?

Always great to see Ed getting more exposure.

However, TED---geez, ask questions and get out of the way. You spend more time showing us you know your material rather than letting us hear from Ed, the subject.

Rich's review of LISM is great. I added a link to his review on my blog.

My post-interview questions/comments for Dog House would be that Aja, and to some extent Acoustic Moments, Angelina, Ballad of Heidi seem almost folksy in a way. You could easily play those in a coffee house with acoustic and get some big early John Mayer type following ;)

Aja has that Michael Hedges/New Age feel. La Mer - that beginning slide like riff sounds familiar, I just can't place it right now.

I might actually start doing solo acoustic gigs, playing with that idea.
La mer...it's a Debussy thing that was the theme song of the the movie The Sea. Also that's fretless, not slide.

Very good points Lance. I am sure that I will have a hard time getting anything post worthy. One thing for me, being pretty much tone deaf, by the time I figure out which key/scale to play in, I will have played it 10 times (9 times in the wrong key), so by the time I hit "record" I'll have some familiarity. We'll see.

Ed - please email me the backing tracks, I'm heading to the studio this weekend!

I realize it's you on fretless, but the riff I'm thinking of is on slide, and not from the movie, I'm thinking maybe something Jackson Browne or Eagles. I'll recall it next time I hear it.

I might actually start doing solo acoustic gigs, playing with that idea.

We got some sorta miscommunication here...the play along version and high res FLAC download version of the album together are available for 20 bucks, it's not a freebie.

Ed - for those of us who bought the CD, what is the process for now just getting the downloadable or emailed play along files?

Also, what kind of credits do you want on jam along home recordings put out on the web?

Email me if I should edit my first post here, or blog to correct anything.

Just e-mail and paypal me 20 bucks and that gets you the play along. As for credits...link to the CD at any availabe site where it sells and make sure it says that it comes from there so folks don't think it's some one elses stuff.
