Good morning! I apologize as I am sure this has discussed a million times, but I am not sure what to search for, so I will just ask away!

I need to purchase an inexpensive home recorder. This is not for high quality, and I am not talking about software and the ability to multi track. What I need is something basic to set up just to record ideas as they come about...something to place in the room to capture everything I play (electric and/or acoustic) as to not loose ideas the next morning.

It is also to record basic song foundations to send to other band members so they can hear them in between practices.

What is the best option out there right now, where price and quality meet?

Thank you in advance!

I might have answered my own question with this post: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=561287&highlight=home+recorder

I'd go for the Zoom H2, I have one and love it for just that reason, to capture ideas when you don't feel like multitracking, and to record band practices, gigs, etc. Only $200 and can record about 6 hours of uncompressed WAV audio on a 4GB SD card, or much more as MP3. Transfer files to PC using USB, then there's a little free program called CDWav that you can use to cut them up if necessary, works great!

Was going to suggest the Tascam DP-004, which I just got and think is pretty great. Has internal mics of pretty good quality and can export WAV files. And then you got the multitrack to add more stuff if you like. Its also super easy to use, like the old portastudios, and the quality of the recordings is quite good.
