I know, If I think of it it's probably already been done/tried....
OK, for old amps designed for 110 VAC and today we are looking at 125 VAC or so. The solutions:
- Carry around a variac or a browner, etc.
- Drop the B+ using one of various methods, but then your heaters suffer.
- Ignore it and hope the amp holds up.
OR, could you run a couple power resistors on each side of AC in and get a consistant 15 VAC drop?
:huh

Rather than using a couple of power resistors, just use a zener diode. Those are made to have specific voltage drops across them.

Thanks Adam. I no speak zener...just one? How would you hook it up?

I use this:

It is easier to do it externally, unless it is part of the design of the amp. Then mod away!

Thanks Gonzo, really. Your suggestion looks like what Weber must be doing with their Browner. I was hoping for a minimally invasive internal solution that would be as portable and no-brainer as plugging in your amp anywhere and not worrying. Just can't shake the feeling that a trannie is too much...good info tho, thanks again!

That is a basic browner/bucking transformer. It's actually the easiest, and safest way to do it, because it will work with any amp. You can mount it into a nice project box, and plug and play any time.
