Thought I would start a new thread showcasing some of the new Bluesmasters that were sent out earlier this month.

In any case, here are some pictures of mine – it’s a Darkburst with Wolfetone Legends.

Not much to say about the Bluesmaster that hasn’t already been said. But what I will say is that this guitar is the sweetest electric I’ve ever laid my hands on. Giving it a run this last week has cemented in my mind that Johan’s Custom ’59 is not simply a variation on a masterpiece but a masterpiece in its own right. Despite the hefty price tag, it was also accompanied by the most satisfying purchasing experience I have been involved in. Cliff’s service and general responsiveness these past few months has been second to none and he has restored my faith in a part of the process which I have at times viewed as a necessary evil. This is one guitar I will not be parting with for a very long time. Thanks Johan and Cliff.

Magnificent looking guitar. Congrats on getting a modern classic.

As this guitar is of the latest of Johan's production run can you give any details as to how you had your Bluesmaster built? Neck size, chambered or solid, etc...etc. How long was the wait to finally get one? Thanks.

All other things aside, JG has the best combination of flame and paint colours. Easily the best looking guitars there are.

there's no such thing as a bad 'burst on a jg. but i am partial to the lighter ones, though. the lemony ~ ice tea shades are the ones I drool over more.

Yeah, those first two pictures are kind of gross.

Things to do today:
1) Eat greasy pizza
2) Play $10K guitar
3) Wash hands

..........Hmmm, I'm not sure if I've got those in the right order.

Well, congrats on the new guitar. I'm sure it's awesome.

This is actually something I had wondered. Happy to report that it's wood and that to the eye it looks like very darkly stained tortoise shell. Cameras on the other hand don't seem to pick it up.

I'm sorry but I can't really tell you much - I basically wanted a bog standard Custom '59 so the only thnigs I ended up specifying were the Legends and the Darkburst. Apart from that all I know is the basics: the Honduran Mahogany body, the maple top, the Brazilian Rosewood fretboard, the 24 3/4" scale length, the Buzz Feiten tuning system. Not even sure if the crown inlays are abalone, mother of toilet seat or something else.

I can answer your other question though. Cliff was advertising a batch of about a dozen or so on the DAG website in June. I put my name name down on the 16th and Cliff told me I'd secured the second last spot. The guitar arrived last Monday so it actually wasn't too long a wait.

Hope this helps.

I mean, can't a guy that even OWNS JG's ASK ANOTHER OWNER of a JG IF they are "chambered or solid"?
Jeez.........wacky man. Really wacky!

I think you guys that own and/or want to own JG Bluesmasters better GET USED to the question of chambered or solid.

Agreed - amazing guitars!!

I've played 5 and they were all superb instruments - a 03, 05, 06 and two 07's. I have no idea how Johan can consistently create such incredible musical instruments.

To contrast, I've played dozens of Gibson Les Pauls - mostly historics - and there are only 4 of them I've really liked, and that includes 2 conversions.

I see that JG has validated chambering. I think it has mainly upset people who liked to diss chambered guitars because they now have nowhere to go with their POV.
Of course, it's possible some of those people owned JG's too.

Nice to see one that has come to Australia, very pretty !!

yeah, just do a search for JG, and you can read until your eyes bleed. no need to strat harping on that.

A JG @ 10.5 is not overpriced when you consider his world class reputation and the amount of work that goes in a set in neck guitar with that quality of wood, full neck/body binding. bolt on Detemples and Depergos are 7,000 plus.

it's more time consuming to build a LP style set neck guitar vs a slab body strat or tele.

Even if you shell out 10.5k on a new one, you're still going to get most of your money back on resale due to limited production. so it's about as good as investment as you'd expect on a high end guitar.

More than a few historic LP's are 10k plus guitars. If i had a check for 10 grand and had to buy a historic lp or a jg, i think it's take the jg pretty easily.

There is also the exchange rate & import tariffs as the Euro was at one time high against the dollar. Not sure if the exchange rate still applies.

No, the exchange rate is roughly the same now as when Bluesmasters first arrived in the US.

All these guitars are well beyond a time & materials analysis. It's more what the market will bear/supply & demand at these levels. IOW, if they sell, they're not overpriced. If they don't sell, maybe they are.

Why is a Ferrari so expensive?

Really poor analogy IMHO......

But this isn't the first time in the last few months DAG has been selling these. I'm waiting for an amp for 3+ years now. JG's seem to come along at the $10k price every few months. Yet I know good people who are selling them used at $17k.

I'm really at a loss to figure any of this out unless there is a difference in quality somehow.

JPERRYROCKS
09-04-2009, 08:43 PM
people who have money aren't stupid and they always want a good deal.

that's why they have it. 17k at the height of the buying frenzy for a jg, maybe....but it's not that way anymore. Even vintage gear has dropped dramatically in the last 2-3 years.

what you ask for something and what you get are two different things.

8.5-9k is current market for used JG's, IMO for cold hard cash. ~11k for a new one.

as the market recovers, i can see prices going up. But it's soft overall and now is the time to buy anything in life if you have the money.
