The new issue of GW has an interview with Kerry King. They ask about his amps when he started out and says how he moved from a Fender Super Showman to Marshalls. Then he goes on to say, "My practice amp back then, which I still have today, is a Fender Super Champ. Those things are awesome!"

I want to hear south of heaven through one!
I wanna hear Necrophobic! Haul out that Fender SC, Kerry! Makes me wonder if the live rig is all empty cabs and the FSC is under the stage with a little mic on it : )
Arise, Ghosts of Gear!

That's the one.
had one, awesome, but broken footswitch frustrated me, couldn't access all tones without one, replacement for the switch was $175, funk that.

Apparently those footswitches used optical switching so it would be silent. Then Fender stopped making them. More info here in a nice history of the Super Champ, including a $95 solution. Still a lot for a footswitch but better than $175. http://www.geocities.com/soho/studios/6694/superchamp/

I agree, the Super Champ is a great little amp.
IMO the footswitch is not needed. Although the lead sound of the second channel is good the amps shines in the clean channel. Adding a Skreddy Screwdriver or something similar makes the lead channel obsolete.

He's talking about the gainy little Riveras from the early 80s? He was trying to outdo Mesa Boogie with those...not your typical Fender I think.
That "gainy" little Riveras will also do a very great version of Fender clean plus it is a Deluxe in a very very small package watts wise.
