I finally had enough money to pay off school and residence so I figure its time to start spending on myself a little. I've been in love with this guitar since I first heard it it, and the more I played it in stores the more and more I liked it. Here's my new beauty: Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin, made in Montreal Canada. The guitar is made with Canadian Wild Cherry and has a single P90.

The guitar sounds great. Its possibly the loudest, most resonant electric guitar I've ever heard. Almost as loud as my acoustic guitar. The P90 sounds very natural, through any clean amp it sounds like a perfect extension of the acoustic sound, which is warm and very natural sounding. The tone and volume controls are really quite amazing.. perfectly smooth from top to bottom with no sudden boosts or drains when turning them up or down. Sounds just as good and natural with volume on 1 as 10.

Is there a better guitar at three times the price? I don't think so.
Definitely. I've played only a few archtops that sound and play better than this, and they were generally in the 5-10k range in price.

Man, i've been gassing for one of these, and this thread isn't helping!
I'm just not sure if i would be comfortable with the full hollow body shape...

We are a Godin dealer, and I'm amazed at the quality. That 5th Ave. is so rich looking. You can't get a better guitar for 3 times the price, no.

what a beauty! Do they make it with a florentine (sharp horn) cutaway? I just might sell my 1967 Es-175 for one of those... and some extra cash in my pocket!!!

I haven't even plugged it in all day since I left the store, it sounds absolutely amazing unplugged. I'll have to give it a shot into a twin tomorrow.

How is the volume compared to, say a flattop? I realize it won't be booming like a dreadnought, but I worry that the laminate top and back won't make for a very loud guitar acoustically. Can you comment? I would be using it almost solely as an acoustic (playing alone) if I got one.
Thanks in advance, and enjoy it, she's a beauty!

Its quite amazing, and surprising. Its the loudest, clearest hollow guitar I've ever heard. Its only very slightly quieter than my other acoustic guitars, but still loud and good enough sounding that I would bring it to an acoustic gig. If you plan on just using it as an acoustic guitar, then get the one without the P90, its a bit louder and brighter acoustically. It actually overpowered some of the other acoustics that people were playing in the soundproof acoustic room.

Thanks Timmy, I appreciate the input. I would definitely go for the one without the P90, and possibly end up adding a Benedetto or Kent Armstrong floating pickup down the road.
Congrats again, I'm jealous!
