Sold my SG in July to someone from another site, no not HC. He's a long time formite, everyone's known him for a long time. Told me he would pay me in a few weeks. I said no problem, I'll ship you the guitar in advance. I didn't mind waiting a bit and wanted to help him out. Well, it's been 2 months and nada. I'm getting the run around. Getting the I have xyz amount I could send now if you want. I tell him, yes, mail it now. Then a week or so goes by and no check and no response to emails. I emailed him tonight and told him I need the money mailed tomorrow or further action needs to be taken.

Sorry, just wanted to rant. And yes, I know I shouldn't have sent him the guitar first. I have done it many times to formites like yourselves with thousands of posts and well known to everyone. You feel ok about it and never expect something like this to happen.

That's a shame. It's nice to help people, but bidness....is bidness. PM me the offender, if you don't mind.

Bummer,
Write it off. Not worth the what, $600..
You will spend more of your precious time chasing it down to no avail and miss out on even more precious family time.

Of course, NEVER ship anything till the funds have cleared.

Man that just stinks. Here you go giving the dude a break and trying to help him out and he turns around and screws you. Personally, I think letting the guitar go without cash in hand is silly but if you had reason to suspect he was an a$$hole I guess you wouldn't have. I always say that I have no reason not to trust someone but never do shipping without at least a valid shipping number in return or a cash in hand. It's too easy to get boned and some people just don't have respect for others. The cash should have been in your hands when he origianlly said it would be - none of this "I have bills, etc..." bullsh**. His financial woes are not your problem.

I'm sorry this idiot is dic&ing you around. If it's a better known name around here, I would appreciate a pm staing his name if you don't mind.

Like I said, another forum. I'll wait on his response, if not good, I'll expose him over there.

I just read two additional threads about other members getting burned by low-lifes. What the heck is going on today? I wouldn't even think about screwing someone over like that. Hopefully all parties will be exposed and they will be banned from having the chance to do it again. How could anyone live with themselves knowing they intentionally scammed someone?

WTF?

It's a sign of the times.
Both that people are in over their head, and also that people are sacrificing reputations for a quick cash grab. You can't pay bills with a good forum reputation. Making me more nervous about doiong long distance deals.
I'd not be surprised if he has already sold the guitar and spent the proceeds.

It sucks that you tried to do the guy a solid, and he's basically f$cking you. Hate to say it, but I wouldn't count on getting any $$$.

I've been doing tons of deals here and on other sites, for years. I have plenty of folks that I've had MANY successful transactions with......no issues at all. But even with that, I can only think of a couple few people that I would trust enough to send them ANYTHING, until I received their payment. It's not even lack of trust as much as prudence and not tempting fate.

Good luck.

Call the police in his town and ask to speak to a detective. Tell them your situation and ask how you can go about resolving it. Me thinks a single visit by said detective will yield payment in full, especially if he lives with mommy.

Tell him... either pay, or ship the guitar back. His choice.

If not, file a small claims suit against him. It costs you about $50. He gets a subpoena and has to travel to where you filed. If anything, that will get his attention.

Change of venue. The seller may have to fly to the buyer's town. It happens. :mob

The one thing I can say about this site is that I have sold some pricey (for me) items like some CS Fender and older Gibson stuff and the sales have been fast to normal people.

I have found other sites to have a lot of flakes.
