I wanted to post those Jack Pearson clips here on TGP which inspired me to finally get a Soundclick account. Wichita's excellent slide clips on his Bludo inspired me to finally turn on the recorder.
Its nothing fancy just a Zoom H-4 pointed at my cab.
A few tone tastes of what the amp can do.
The playing, well...I'm only a hobbyist, so no apologies.
I'll try harder in the future.

Here's my mid '70s 335TD
Clean channel with lots of gain up, boost engaged

More 335, hang around to the end-

This is Frankenstrat#1-Ole '55, neck humbie, OD engaged, then stack bypassed. I think its in Bluesmaster mode. A touch of delay.

Lowell George of Little Feat fame, was the first time I ever heard a Strat/Slide/ & Dumble Combination. Im beleive he used a 4x10 cab if my memory serves me still!

Sounds great Barry. I love the feedback at the end of clip #2, awesome!

Thanks, Dana O.

Man, you're gettin' some great tone there. Really like the second and third clips.

Nice playing too.

Thanks, Jim

Sounds great! I have been thinking about trying to pickup slide for some time now. Both yours' and Wichita's clips have inspired me to try. My slide work sounds like some cats in heat right now...

Thanks for posting!

Thanks guys. Very inspiring. I've always hated listening to myself. I only hear the stuff I don't like. For all the years I've played live, people ask why don't I record and my answer is always-' the best pictures are in your mind'.
Anyway, the Glaswerks is a very inspiring amp for me.
Dana buddy- we need to continue our conversation.

I have a pretty nice 4x10 I haven't fired up in a while. I'll try to record some clips tomorrow.
These were through a Glaswerks 2x12 with Celestion 12-65 RIs.

About time you came out of the closet, Baz.
Some nice stuff there esp. harmonics - it sounds like you're holding back though - recording making you edgy?
Liked the last track a whole lot (I was listening whilst typing the nonsense above) - more cutting loose, please!

So when can I send you some Logic files for you to add some lead?

Best, Pete.

Yeah, well, I was probably trying too hard instead of letting the force be with me. After being a golden windbag on TGP for so many years I am loathe to embarrass myself amongst so many great players and respected friends.
Also, playing solo is very 'naked'. I mostly enjoy being a live 'ensemble' player, not a recording artist by any stretch.
I also feel a great responsibility to Gary Johnson of Glaswerks to show his amp in its best light, and to Scott Lerner, who laboriously has hand-tuned many of my rigs to get them where I feel comfortable and happy. If my clips convey anything about great tone in an amp, I can only add that they are a joy to play, responsive and juicy. It is a brilliant amp, and thats why I'm posting over here in the Gear Demo section, rather than the Members Clips section.
Later, I want to try some clean, clucky in-between pickups strat stuff on the clean channel of the Glaswerks, maybe into my 4x12. The Glaswerks is such a versatile amp, and the cleans can be absolutely gorgeous. So many discussions of D-type amps focus mainly on the overdrive, but there's much more depth to these amps than just that.

As far as dubbing some leads over Logic files, I wouldn't know where to begin. Remember, I'm recording onto a Zoom H-4 and editing clips on a free download of Audacity. I'm still in the Stone Age of Recording.

The Amp and your playing sounded great - just a little restrained is all. I'm exactly the opposite, cramped in public, free in the studio.....such is life?

Man! You'll soon be spending thousands on recording gear!

Best, Pete.

Thanks Gary!
I have one of those Industrial brand 6 string laps. Its a lot of fun. I usually have it in C6 tuning. One of these days I'll try to cop the Lindley 'Runnin' on Empty' tones just for giggles.
Did Scott get his new amp yet? Looking forward to hearing that one!

That is a money pit I refuse to fall into.Man, I hear THAT!

I've already got dogs, women (the gal, the daughter, the close friends who's kids going off to college), guitars and amps, cars, and other bills that ALL have a way of sucking hundred dollar bills out of my pockets.

I'm taking it easy on recording gear. So far, I bought a BR-600 that I'm unable to use correctly yet ....

Maybe I'll get a Mac one day ...

Yes, Barry, we gotta continue our conversation.

Dana, Here's my tip; dump the BR-600 and get a Mac.
Those standalone things are a cul-de-sac. Hey, you like that? Remember them from the UK?

Best, Pete.

Very cool Barry!
Very nice playing.
I will say since I sat in front of that amp as it was getting tweaked and listened to it roaring and fully open that the clips don't quite do that amp total justice. Just the recording device, which is still pretty cool.
Just that the tone of that amp is so huge and alive in person with you playing it.
Still want to hear more clips though for sure, maybe put the device a little closer(?)
Cheers,
Jason

Thanks. This is a great thread!!! I went quickly through it tonight trying to gleem little bits and pieces. I am going to spend some time tomorrow reading all the pages in detail. There looks to be a lot of great information in here. I'll take all the help/guidance I can get.

Barry - that rocks

I'm glad to know the "hobbyist" slide player vs. the consumate professional that you are when you strap on a tie...

Fire and Ice...

Ice pays the bills... but me LIKE fire! It's good for the soul...

yes. pun intended...

Thanks for all the encouragement and kind words everyone.
Jason- yes- its hard to capture the dynamics of the amp as it is in person, in front of the speakers. Particularly on my little hand-held field recorder. I set it up with the automatic gain control which basically sets the max input so it does not go into clipping. I'd rather do that than engage the compression/limiting which would squish the dynamics. The recorder was about 5 feet in front of the speakers and I'm standing between the mics and the speakers. I noticed if I stepped aside there are more highs, but also more noise from the amp. Nothing you would hear at stage volume in a band or in the context of a performance. But it was annoying. So I allowed my body to act as a 'beam blocker'
Also, I had to compress the file sizes of the MP3s before Soundlick would allow me to upload them. This just adds support to the reasons I have always bitched about people who buy amps based on clips. By the time you record, mix, eq, convert to MP3, compress for upload and playback through computer sound software and speakers it is really just a thumbnail sketch of the big picture of tone and dynamics. Plus, of course, you get none of the feel of the amp under your fingers.
Next time I record I can try bringing the unit closer, or even dropping some mics in front of the speaker cones- I do have some SM57s.
And I'll try to let ':rockin ,,,the Force be with me'

Well lets give it another go when we have the next get together. If you could capture what I heard live it would make for some serious forum fodder. Between yours and Scott's big 6l6 variation I was pretty taken aback by the overall size and complexity of the tone.
Not easy for a true blue vintage Marshall head like me to take notice of other colors but damn....
Regardless, keep putting clips out, it is fun to listen to.
