View Full Version : OK to leave the soundhole pickup in?
I recently got a fishman neo-D soundhole pickup for my Masterbilt acoustic.
Sounds lovely. The booklet says leaving it installed for long periods can do damage to your guitar.
Gas anyone ever ignored this warning and been OK? It would be very handy to just leave in in all the time.
Experiences, anyone?
I've got Fishman Rare Earth sound hole pickups in my Gibson and Guild acoustics, put them in years ago and never had a problem with them maring the finish, etc.
Put it in and forget about it.

They will often leave a slight indentation in your finish and top when left in for years (my Sunrise did that after a few years when I removed it). It depends how heavy the pup is, how tightly you clamp it in, and how thin and light the top of your guitar is.
The Fishman sound hole pickups have a cork liner where they clamp down on the sound hole and are fairly lightweight, just don't crank down on the screws, just tight enough to hold it in place if you accidentally bump it.

The only time it MUST come out is for extended travel and/or shipping.

Cork is correct. It should be good to go- not clamped in too tight.
