Our bass player uses a BLX80 and it sounds great.

The amp arrived today. I love the look of it and it appears to be pretty high quality materials used. The manual is actually informative and helpful too. The 4 button footswitch seems built like a tank.

I plugged it in, made sure all volume, gain, etc. was set to zero. Turned on the power and got a fairly loud hum. Then it started smoking.

Turned off the power and unplugged it, smoke filtered out for a bit. There is a definite burned electronics smell coming from it.

Pretty disappointed, but I am going to try another one. Called AMS and they were very good about sending a return ship label. They said once they get the tracking number they will send a replacement.

Hopefully this was just an anomoly. I'll report back when the new one arrives.

Ouch. That doesn't sound promising! I noticed the price is back up to the normal retail. Hopefully, the replacement does the trick. I'd also double-check the manufacturers warranty in case it craps out later.

Very disappointing to hear. I was getting hopefull that Trace Elliot was making a comeback, but this is not like the TE gear I've owned or remember.

Well the replacement amp came today and I love it. The tone is super smooth and dang this thing is LOUD.

Really, really happy with it. Also have to give kudos to American Musical Supply for the hassle-free and super fast exchange.

Barbo, good to hear you are digging it! Good price doesn't hurt either, they have them back up at $450 at AMS. I'd really like to get one of these, but I need and want a preamp more than a combo, hopefully TraceElliot will start making preamps again. Good to hear they still have the signature TE tone in their new gear as well.

I am on my second TE 715 200W combo amp and I am interested to compare notes as to what seems to be the "signature" tone of this amp. My problem is this: I cannot for the life of me get a perfectly clean sound out of this amp. There is always an almost tube-like distortion, albeit mild, that is present. It's loud, and I can get alot of different sounds out of it with all the controls, but I am concerned that there is something wrong that's causing this mild distortion. I mailed the first one back for the very same reason. Maybe I'm the idiot and TE is the flagship fuzz bass manufacturer of all time?
