A little different approach, this time focusing on rhythm guitar. Found a bt with drums, bass and vocals of 'The One I Love', a song my old band used to do. I put in 3 rhythm guitar tracks, 2 of them panned left & right, one solo track, and one for the little harmonic at the end of the solo, lol! Once again using a Fender tele and SC30.

That is just rocking man. Great playing and tone.Love the song too.
You need to stop now, or im going to have to go buy another SC30.

Hey thanks for listening and comment, Orlando!:aok This was a blast to record, I'll definitely be trying so more tunes like this out. The SC records like a dream, that recording only took an hour to do.

Sounds great, Madison!
Great job spreading the guitar tracks and making them prominent enough in the mix for us to hear them well and hear the amp and guitar's tone, but also not burying anything else. Everything still seemed to sit well. What did you have the amp's volume on for those rhythm tracks? Did you have the amp set up like you did in your last clip with the two channels jumpered? And what kind of speaker do you have in it?
Thanks!

Thanks for listening guys.
tookermel: Yes, that was the goal...to not overtake the vocal, although I'm much more interested in the guitar tracks, lol! I did jumper the channels, adding more bass from the triode side, and plugging into the hi input on the pentode side. The volume was very loud, gigging loud...with an SM57 you seem to get better results from pushing more air. Even louder on the solo track, that was literally one take because I knew any second my wife was gonna come in and go off. Come to think of it, the rhythm tracks were one take as well...it's an easy song to play so long as you get the timing right.
I have a brand new Matchless labeled G12H-30, the old one that was in it got damaged during shipping and was pretty well shot. The speaker sounded great the minute I put it in. This speaker was used with the short 30 second demo, and a standard G12H-30 was used for the previous SC clips.

I gotcha! I think you did a really good job at making the amp sound big and lifelike. I've heard tracks time and time again that sound so small, especially through headphones, which is usually the culprit. I really like what it does to the tone by jumpering them the way you do. My Overbuilt Limey is basically just the 12AX7 side of a C-30, so I probably can't get that same sound, but still a good one. Makes me kinda' wish I could blend in some EF-86 goodness...

And I know what you mean by givin' the 57 some more air - you can hear a good amount of pick-chirp in this clip, which I love! Excuse me if you were talking about something else, but I think that's what you meant by "air."

A couple things to make it 'bigger' when not using lots of gain (from a novice's point of view)...layers of guitar tracks with the mix level a bit low so it stays relatively articulate, if using a 57 more recording volume at the source, and run your recording mixing and mastering levels to the brink of clipping...which is hard, too much it's wasted, not enough and the sound loses punch.
I don't think I've heard any clips of your Nolatone Chimey...would love to hear some (hint)!

I gotcha! I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for the tip!
It's actually an Overbuilt Limey, built by Rick Secembe who used to work for Matchless, not the Chimey Limey, built by Paul from Nolatone. Paul has some clips up too (which are awesome), but I don't think I've ever come across a clip of the Overbuilt, besides maybe this one, which might not be as raw a representation an needed to really get a sense of the amp's tone.
Band is "Mew": (cool song)

Best idea is the clean, twangy part at the beginning, then the pushed chordal rhythm part in the first verse. Is definitely sounds like that clean part is doubled or more, but it also sounds like a slight amount of some sort of octave generator is turned on, and I love how on that chordal part you can hear a whistling sort of feedback when the chords are muted. Very harmonic amp, as are C-30's anyway. I can crank my Limey and still hear note seperation.
How 'bout a clip with the amp cranked up, Madison?!?!
This amp is a beast...

BTW - please don't try to go to the Overbuilt website. It is corrupted - some have said that Rick set it up to die since taking a job with Fender's Custom Shop, and since he doesn't build amps anymore. I did it once ignorantly and had to remove some crap from my PC after that, LOL.

Thanks for listening, appreciate it! Ya the vocals were already on the bt, I only did guitar tracks. He did a good rep of Stipe I thought.

No, the vocals were on the bt, I'm just the lowly 6 stringer. I'll have a listen to your youtube vid tonight, looking forward to it. We're banned from Youtube at work, slows the servers down.
