Badass pickin', kyle...some shades of EJ every so often! Now I see what all the fuss is about with the Swart. Rock on, bro!

Yeah, I see it too! Freak of nature tone and playing! Are those the original Matchless speakers in that cab, or something different?

thanks madison...I loved your sc-30 clips by the way. Splendid tone-great playing... your clips convinced me to get one! Thanks tookermel..I actually bought that cab on here from a fellow tgp'r. It has celestion golds in it - THE best speakers I have ever played.. my clips do it NO justice. ;) -kyle

What effects were used for the clips?

Duh! :jo

I didn't even think to look down at your signature! My bad - I see now.

How would you compare it to the Mojave 2X12 you have with the Blue/G12H30 mix? My cab has those same speakers, but I have thought about maybe changing the Blue out for a Gold...

Thanks,

Had to listen to that clip again - through good headphones this time instead of my Macbook's built-in speakers. That Swart is screamin' man!

I know they break up differently (earlier/later), but, at higher volumes, does the Gold compress as much as the Blue? When I have my amp in half-power mode (Overbuilt Limey - 30'ish watts), it actually seems to have just about the same amount of clean headroom as in 30 watt mode at certain volumes 'cause there's more speaker breakup from the Blue in full-power, so I was wonderin' if that Gold would hold firm more (which may be desirable in some cases). Not that it's a bad sound - a Celestion Blue that's sweatin' is a beautiful thing. Just curious...

Thanks,
-Mat

Sounds great. Between you and Greg V I am going to have to add one of these amps to my stable.

Hey tookermel...Here is my take on the comparison..

To be honest I love the blue ..but it farts out to easily. The golds are just like the blue with that chalky, chimey, organic sound - but handle more wattage. (50 watts a piece I believe ;) ) ..They have better low end than the blue as well. I like to crank up and play loud at venues ..so these speakers FREAKIN ROCK! Loud, chimey, organic, great low end - it's sounds extremely huge and warm. You will have to hear them to belive it.

I wish I had a mismatched speaker though so I could have a little more swirl and 3d. Any ideas? haha -kyle

OH...ps rocketman.. from what I remember...Jetter Gain Stage Blue,MXR Carbon Copy delay,Morley Bad horsie 2. :) Hope that helps!!

I hear ya' man - I'm still thinking about it because, 1. I have never played anywhere I can get away with playing the full 30'ish watts and make the Blue work hard, and 2. I'm guessing the Blue and Gold sound the most similar at lower volumes, so it doesn't really make much sense financially to get a Gold, unless I could sell the Blue to fund a Gold. Maybe I'll have more than one cab in the future so I can have a bunch of different speakers!

Thanks man...

Hey Tookermel...I think the blue and gold sound almost identical at lower volumes. So you are right about not making much sense to get a gold, since you would'nt use the wattage! I have not experiemented much with speakers yet.. I really wish I could borrow about 20 speakers and mix and match and see which ones I like! I've been looking at those fane speakers... - What kind of setup are you running Mat? -kyle

Hey, Kyle - here's a pic of what I play through:

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc151/tookermel/LimeyJDesign1.jpg

It's a 1999 Overbuilt Limey (serial # 0001) made by a guy who used to work for Matchless, but now works for Fender's custom shop and doesn't build these, or any of his other models (that I'm aware of) anymore. It's basically the 12AX7 channel of a DC-30, with what I expect to be Rick's special ingredients mixed in - and the EQ circuit's different than a DC-30, too. No master volume, but it does have a half-power switch, which really just has a smidge less "authority" than when in full-power - it's still really loud, and really heavy - lots of iron in there. The cab is made by Jeff at JDesign, which is pretty big for a 2X12 (a foot deep!), but had to be to match the head. It has a Blue-G12H30 mix. This amp does the Vox/Matchless thing and beyond - really smokes when you crank it. I have a "Tele" being built by me right now by "Superlead" (a fellow TGP'er), which should be ready pretty soon, and a Strat that I play occasionally. Definitely don't have chops anywhere near yours yet, but I'm workin' on it, LOL!

Would love to play your setup - never had the chance to play a Swart in person.

Great playing and tones. I'm gonna order a Jetter Blue after hearing your clips. That pedal sounds monstrous.

Thanks man... I have NEVER played an overdrive that sounded so thick and juicy. It's a pedal I will NEVER get rid of. Go out and buy one... you won't be dissapointed!!! haha -kyle
