Great stuff! My two favorite designs in that heap were actually British -- that new Lotus and the Aston Martin.
I haven't been high Loltus designs for years, but that is one striking design. Was it tiny?
of course, the Ferrari Daytonas were great. I love those old spoked rims they used to have. They look so massive.

Yeah, the Evora is as small as the Elise and the factory rep said it's even more fun to drive than the Elise! Retails for around 75k next year. This is the only one in the USA at the moment. IMO, it's going to be very popular. Great looking and performing car, especially with the potential for 30 mpg.

That silver Daytona brings back memories. One summer, I worked for a friend of mine, who had a black top sealing company. He rented industrial property from his partner's father. The partner's father was an exotic car restorer. They had a whole shop, with about 12 employees, who completely rebuilt cars. That's where I saw my first De Tomaso Pantera. They did a lot of Jags. One day, I walked in, looking for the partner. The guy I talked to was doing some welding. I asked what was he making, and he pointed to the bulk of metal behind me. "Window track for that ferrari daytona." I couldn't even tell that the rusted hulk before me was a ferrari. They remanufactured the cars the same way they were made, by hand. I saw the car when it was done, my stars, it was beautiful.
Sadly, the father was killed while driving his beloved E-type roadster. A car crashing in the opposite lane of the highway breeched the median barrier and landed right on his car. In full view of his wife who was following in their Land Rover.

What silver Daytona? The only Daytona pictured is the black one that's overheating....
The silver car is a 250 GTO, and the yellow one beside it is a 275 GTB (I can tell it's not the GTB/4, the hood does not have the center bulge down it)...
Yes, I'm a Ferrari NUT!
I see a BMW M1 in the group--that's not a very common car, especially over here, although one of the car mags did a story on one back in about 1980 or so....
Let's see some Panteras!!!! Talk about a bargain basement exotic--Italian sheet metal (by way of South America) and American motive power (351 Cleveland) makes for a beautiful, but easy to maintain exotic.....

Been trying to get the pics on photobucket but they're not transferring for some reason. Same problem I had the other night but eventually they went through. I'll get the rest up one way or another. And yes, the BMW M1 is a rare sight. The design still holds up. Cool car.
BTW, that pic of the white Ferrari with the stripe is actually the F430 Scuderia, not the 360 CS which is the red striped Ferrari pic next to it. Sweet car.

I got to race my Pantera there at the Monterey Historics in the early '90's when DeTomaso was the featured marque. We were on the track with the Ferrari Club. Nothing like passing a few million dollars worth of Ferrari's on the front straight! The Pantera Club still has a pretty good showing up there, especially at the Concourse Italiana. Those were some fun times. I remember on the license plate holder of one F-40 that said "Vipers for Breakfast Porsches for Lunch" and another that said "I'm hungry, feed me a Viper".

Those modded Vipers are Ferrari killers now. My friend raced his Enzo, which is in the pictures here at the show, against a modded Viper with supercharger good for 760 H.P and the Viper beat him by a decent margin.

you dont need a modded corvette for viper to beat the ferraris or lamborghinis or just about any of the other sports cars out there. the new corvette zr1 and viper gts have the fastest lap times around nurburgring....totally stock. (the viper is slightly faster).

Yea, the new Vettes and Vipers are pretty awsome. Having raced cars and racecars for several years you'd be surprised how much is driver though. There is so much to learn regarding car control versus just having big balls. I would put good money on a pro driver in stock Mustang verses ANYBODY owning a ZR1 or GTS Viper that had never raced the car on a track before.
I have a couple of racing go karts. One is a 125 shifter kart, the other is a 100cc centrifigal clutch kart (much slower). My buddy who I play guitar with use to race a couple of porches. We got to drinking and such and he said he'd be able to keep up with me and run the same lap times in my shifter that I could. He'd never driven a kart before, but had raced at Mid Ohio and several other places in his Porshces. I said, I'll take you to the track and you can drive my shifter kart for as long as you like to get use to it. After you think you've got it down, I'll get in my 100cc kart and we'll race. I said, I'll lap you in less than 10 laps. He said BS, no way. I was wrong, it only took me 5 laps. He'd never been in anything that can pull 1.3 g's in a turn before, so he never believed that kart would do it, also, he's never driven anything that would brake like a shifter kart can, so he was braking way too early in every turn. He had so much fun he went out the next weekend and bought a shifter kart. It's a nice one too. He's been running it this whole last summer and is less than a second a lap from my times. If he ever beats me I'm going to be pissed! Something else, you can only do about 10 one minute laps in one of these karts because it's so physically demanding. When we go out, we do two or three of these 10 lap sessions and call it a day.

Coincidence, then. Donovan's is also a New England resto shop specializing in Jags … I occasionally stop to drool at their small showroom filled with vintage goodies. One day the door their separate warehouse building was left open and I saw a Pantera, Countach, 70's 911 RS, Corniche, etc. :crazy. Cool little place. http://donovanmotorcars.com/
