My all time fave Harry Georgeson song; what do you guys use for the second chord? Gdim?
It's not Gdim, because it has a B, not a Bb.
The notes are G-B-C#-E, which could have various names:
C#m7b5/G
Em6/G
G6b5.
It's a transition chord between G and Cmaj7, of course. The C# is a passing note between D and C; the G and B stay the same in all three chords; and the D in the G goes up to E on the 2nd chord and stays there for the Cmaj7.
--------------------------
--3----5----5-------------
--4----4----4-------------
--4----5----5-------------
--5----4----3-------------
--3----3---(3)------------
In fact the middle chord could be played like either of these:
-0----0-
-0----0-
-0----0-
-5----2-
-4----4-
-3----3-

If it's a dim chord you're looking for... you do understand that there are really only 3 of 'em, right? They just keep repeating after that, up the 'board, in different inversions...
Easier still, with aug chords; there are only TWO OF THOSE!

Cool! My hearing and Spector's mix (could we get time added to his sentence?) lead me to question what sounds best.

Yepper, but like JonR posted, it was my stone ears.

Us simpletons just play A7... G A7 C.
Us simpletons just play A7... G A7 C.A7 will do nicely, actually. The original chord is like a rootless A9.

And it's actually the third chord pattern as well.
