Just got home from a so- so gig, and at first I was gonna whine and complain about playing in the hot sun on a flatbed trailer, not being able to hear the vocals or the other guitarist very well, tuning issues, blah blah blah, and then it hit me....

Holy crap, I just got to make music in front of people, they had a good time, and I am a lucky SOB to have the opportunity to make money doing something I love. Man, all the "bad" stuff was trivial compared to the overwhelming positive of what I got to do.

Life is good!

But it could be even better with real sound guys.

Sorry, just had a so-so gig today too.

Ultimately that's a great perspective to have. I've had what I thought was a great gig, playing wise, where the audience reacted like statues. Playing in front of people will always fall somewhere between great and terrible, depending on who you ask, and when you ask them. I usually view my performance much harsher than everyone else; including fellow band members. While that can be a drag. It does keep me striving to improve. Life IS good........

Jack White is featured in a documentary (not "It Might Get Loud") screened at the Toronto International Film Festival this year. In this doc, he and his ex (Meg) play a tour of tiny locales in the north of Canada, as far north as Iqaluit.

You might expect these to be so-so gigs, small audiences in under-equipped venues. But they often turn out to be great gigs, if you measure greatness in terms of the joy experienced by the people.

It's nice to be playing. Life is indeed good. Moreso when I'm playing 2 or 3 times a month. (Hobby player)

My band doesn't play clubs. Private/Corporate functions only. So we're going through the lull between summer parties and holiday events. September and October are always slow. As is January and February.

I'm ready to make some music too.
