I have a 2x12 cab currently with a Celestion Blue and a Hellatone 30 (G12H30)... any thoughts of mating that Blue to a Celestion Gold? Anyone try this? Sound positives or negatives? Or should I just leave it as is? (cuz it does sound good, but always looking for better)

This would be like two of the same but not the same than had you gone with 2 Blues, if you follow my lead. You will still be limited to 30W, yet your tone will be slightly warmer and more dynamic than had you gone with 2 Blues. Tonewise I think you would gain more by keeping the G12H30 and replacing the Blue with the Gold while also increasing the power capacity to 60W

you might know brad paisley by looking at your rig. brad uses a blue and a gold in one of his cabs. saw it in a photo somewhere. so that can give you a good idea. not definitive at all though. i actually like your combination already.

Well, it would be 65 watts... not 30, correct?

65 Amps uses the G 12H 30 and AlNiCo Blue in all their 2 x 12" cabinets. Those two speakers in low powered EL 84, EF 86 preamped amps is amazing. I can't see ever changing either in their cabs.

The Gold will be another AlNiCo speaker in 50 watts unless you get a WGS Blackhawk which is identical if not better and in 50 or 100 watts. Not sure how these two would sound, but the 65 cab sounds so good, I'd never change it.

So long as you keep the Blue in your cab, it will remain a 30 watt cabinet. You could put a 200w EVM alongside your Blue and it'd still be a 30w cab. Power capacity = (number of speakers)*(least powerful speaker's rating). If you put 65 watts to that cab then the Blue will see ~33 watts and that'd be bad, mmkay? ;)

Although you might think that adding wattage up is logical it is not. For example, A 50 watt speaker like your gold and a 15 watt speaker like your blue together do not equal a 65 watt cab. In this case 50+15=65 is the wrong approach. Think of it this way, Your amp will not know which speaker to give more wattage two so it gives all speakers equal wattage.

Your cab will be rated at 30 watts. As was stated before, you need to take the lowest wattage and multiply by the number of speakers. So yours is 15 x 2 = 30 watts. Your blue is rated the lowest at 15 watts and you are using 2 speakers, so again 15x2=30 is the wattage of your cab.

Don't even get us started about Ohmage!!!

Thanks for the clarification. I stand corrected.

No problem, those blues are way to expensive to blow.
