hey guys,

read about vca and opto compressors hence this post.

i am in the market for a compressor that will tighten my attack/tone for tight palm mutes and as well as increased sustain.

i've used a cs-3 with monte allums opto mod and that gave me the tight chugs but it had to go when i scaled down my board. next comp i used was a tone press. it did not have the tight chugs of the modded cs-3 but i like how it compressed the signal very evenly with a nice sustain and low noise.

may i ask if i should go with a vca or opto comp for what i am going for and if you have any suggestion/recommendation for me?

many thanks,
dani

check out the EBS MultiComp. With this one you get three compressor types, standard, 'tubism' and multi band - each giving their own respective sounds. The standard sounds like many other great compressors, while the 'tubism' mode is just a little bit thicker. Where this pedal REALLY stands out though, is with the MULTIBAND settings. Inside (behind the backplate) there are adjustable pots that let you adjust the threshold of both parts of the multiband compressor, letting you really dial in the response for your guitar. I tried a lot of compressors, then found this one used, and haven't looked back since. Its very transparent, with lots of headroom.

check it out! - http://www.bass.se/

oh, things build like an effin tank too :beer

IMO many optos are too smooth for what you're describing, though there are exceptions. Have you tried any of the boutique Orange Squeezer clones?

Try a Diamond Comp.
