I may move the Fairfield Randy's Revenge Ring Mod around-and I might need a more cutting distortion, but otherwise, I'm rather happy with this at the moment.....

I play more post-rock, but I can, and do delve into different soundscapes and noise washes with this:

I will never get tired of seeing that L.A. Sound Design HUGE G-System board-I wish there was demo video of it in action. David, you should post the write-up about the signal chain here for that one like you do over at HRI. I am ready to give up classic rock playing and go ambient/textural after seeing that rig.

Great thread. I'd love to hear more about the type of textural/ambient/drone/soundscape/looping music you play and how you integrate pedals-rack effects-computer etc into it. Good stuff everyone. I'll post pics of my setup soon.

Little Big Muff
Hardwire Distortion
Hardwire Overdrive
Jacques Trinity Auto-Wah
Digitech Chorus Factory (set to multi-voice mode)
Effectrode Tube-Vibe
Hardwire Delay
Hardwire Reverb (mostly use the reverse reverb)
Boss 7-band EQ
Boss SC2 looper
....and the Tube-Vibe set on a slow speed into the reverse reverb = ethereal, ambient heaven...........
..now I'm looking for a killer phaser and a flanger........

Damn. And I thought I had a lot of delays/reverbs. Awesome boards guys! I'd post a pic of mine but my timefactor is temporarily out of commission (and man do I miss it).

For the past several months, I've relied on an old Lexicon LXP-5 for the echoey/swooshy parts of my textural/ambient playing. I'm trying to make my board physically smaller, so I started fooling with just two delays - an EHX Memory Boy and a Marshall Echohead. It's not really working, though. :dunno It doesn't help that I'm also trying to simplify my OD setup by using a Rumble Mod/Screwdriver stack, but it just doesn't have the high-end bite that I rely on to induce feedback, the sound I get from my Rat. Darn.
The Memory Boy is good, but... I was hoping to get the same results out of it that I got out of my old Ibanez analog rackmount delay, but the Ibanez makes the Memory Boy sound positively puny.

I'll post a pic of my gear later, but wanted to request that you guys post links to you music. I love ambient and experimental approaches. It would be nice to make new friends who are into this side of it. My stuff is on my website: shanesanders.com

I also wanted to add the discussion the idea of using energyXT within your larger DAW as a great means of doing things that are utterly unique to you, things you can't normally do with pedals.
For instance, with energyXT (a modular VST host with virtual wiring for every aspect of your signal, both MIDI and audio), you can split your signal into completely isolated bands, pipe those into various VST fx, then group them to various buses with panning movement or very wide panning choices per bus. It's very cool, and can be accomplished without spending any money other than the small fee for license for energyXT (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/www.energy-xt.com/)
drone/doom/noise board. piercing moose has been swapped for a swollen pickle...

PN-2 is a great pedal-and it gets very slow=
IG88-cool board-what exactly do you have on there?
what kind of stuff do you listen to?
myself, this is more of a what can I do with pedals to make it sound like I might be using software-I really love that stuff, Tim Hecker, Fennesz, O'rourke, but I haven't broken down and screwed around with it-it seems that it lends itself to a lot of pitfalls as well- my band is in my signature and our frinds are our influences...

not 100% sure the flanger is going to stick around. I'd really like to get my uglyface and clarinot back on there and I'm working on a secret muff project.

You can find my stuff on MySpace:
- Arafúra @ MySpace.com (http://www.MySpace.com/ArafuraMusic)
The 'Staralasis Drone' and 'Dharma' are guitar orientated, 'Ronin' has a guitar beginning though the rest are keys as well, 'Nirodha' is acoustic [with processing] and 'Hymn of Cleansing; Re-Growth, Re-Build and Re-Generation' has certain guitar sounds as well, though you hardly recognize it. 'Ouroboros' is completely formed with keys.
The rest of the newer stuff you can find on YouTube:

Like vids like these:

- Arafúra [ Arafura ] - Ambient / Soundscape / Texture / Textural Guitar Jam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5WObl6szak)
It's all still very much in the works but a full EP is coming in the future.

It's an old thread, I know, but fits my needs.
I play guitar (7 strings at the moment, drop E) in a sludge/doom/noise/experimental/drone/open-mind-open-genre band.
Last year I decided to go rack all the way.
This year I sold my crappy gx700.
Remains are PSA Sansamp + ENGL 930/60
I'm now at the point where I don't know if I shall get one or two multieffect-rack units or get the pedals I figured out i could need.
With both I'll end up somewhere between x-hundred and some thousand Euros.
So, any tips?
going rack, i thought about G-force or G-major and/or Eventide Eclipse or something likewise.
