...but damn was he funny in Tropic Thunder as Les Grossman, especially that silly dance routine he did at the end.

His character was the best part of the movie IMO.

Are you kidding? A nutless monkey could have played that part!

There was a time (not long ago) that I would never say that I loved a movie because of Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. Tropic Thunder, although not great, changed that forever.

Are you saying nutless monkeys aren't funny?!?!?! :worried

That movie left me COLD! Tropic Thunder was a waste of my time. I was expecting something genuinely funny. Jack Black was embarrasingly bad in it!

As for Tom Cruise, anybody could have played that part as well as he did without even trying!

Les grossman is cruise's best performance in years and years

Ya gotta check out the special features on the DVD, apparently he just busted into that dance outta nowhere in a screen test (which they show) and he is a bangin Hip Hop Dancer. Maybe cos he's a joke already, he should go ahead and do a full on Judd Apatow comedy.

Man... I thought TT was hysterical. Actually, like Zoolander it was just "pretty funny" the first time but every time I watch it on HBO again it gets better.

Cruise was hysterical in it.

how can you say after the performance of Roberty Downey Jr? I didn't even know it was him until 20 minutes into the movie...that's how well he pulled it off...I love when the other black dude asks him "what's up with the Chicken George sh#t ?! " LOL

Besides....when I saw his character (Cruise) it was eerily close to a spoof of a hollywood producer that Rick Moranis did on SCTV back in the 80s.

you tell me...how close is this?

TC is usually good as long as he isn't the focus of the film. I think a lot of actors are much better in their supporting roles. Like for instance Bruce Willis?

Cruise isn't one of my favorite actors, but he killed in Tropic Thunder! I loved that character and seriously didn't know it was him until the end credit rolled because I didn't catch the movie at the beginning.

He should really look into more rolls like that... ones that take him out of that action hero genre.

I didn't say Robert Downey wasn't good in the movie. Tom Cruise was just that AMAZING. Plus it was a character I would have never expected him to play.

If you don't read pop-culture moron mags or watch idiocracy television, and watch Cruise's best films, you have to admit he is a good actor. I didn't used to believe that but he has proven himself.

That's cool.....what did you think of the Moranis clip I posted?

Wow, I thought he was terrible. I thought the movie was quite lame overall... Robert Downey, Jr. was good to a point. But Cruise... yuck! IMHO, YMMV, etc...

tom's best acting in years - probably because he didn't feel the need to put out the Tom Effing Cruise aura and carry the movie. i forgot how cool he could be!

I seriously thought that RD Jr.'s performance was Oscar worthy. I loved Cruise in that movie as well. I busted a gut laughing at those two.

He's a genius actor IMHO.

RDJ - billiant performance. I remember the criticism about the blackface but when I saw the movie I was like - no, this is genuine acting and the premise alone makes me laugh just thinking about it. The fact that he actually pulled it off - amazing.

TC - did not realize it was him for while during the movie - he did a great job in my opinion. It's not Lawrence of Arabia. It's a comedy. Glad he chose to do something like that.

I didn't realize it was Cruise at first either. Near the end, I was like "god, that guy sounds familiar". Much to my surprise it was TC.

He's the dude, playing the dude, disguised as another dude.

Tom Cruise was great as well.

I loved TT.
