I usually don't take the time to make these sort of threads but I'm also not used to completely emptying my bank account over a guitar, until I saw this guy:

I originally saw this guitar come in to DAG as it was going to be a charlie chrisitan model, but wound up with P90s, and I was so enthralled with it I sold the JG I had at the time to save up and order one with similar specs. Needless to say I spazzed out when I saw this very guitar for sale.

Somehow I had gone my entire guitar playing career without playing a P-90 guitar, and while I loved the clips of them, I was still a bit nervous about the possibility that I just might not jive with them - the past couple of days I have enjoyed this guitar more than any other guitar I've ever played! The pups are so sensitive and the clarity of the notes and the nuances that get translated - it's just unbelievable! It's hard to justify so much money on a guitar, and I feel like this might be a bigger purchase for me than for a lot of you guys, but I have no regrets. Given, I don't know how much the new pup style is factoring in and how much Johan's artistry is at play, but between the two I don't care to speculate - if you get the chance give one of these things a try! So yea, I just wanted to share that after many guitars I think the tone quest for the perfect instrument is over. I'm still not done buying, this *is* TGP of course, but I'm 100% content finally :)

And yea - Johan does one hell of a darkburst. It's a little less vibrant than in the above photos when it's in more typical lighting environments. And to be honest, that top photo really doesn't even do it justice. It's classy through and through.

But I guess it's not without it's small problems and I just wanted to ask - I wanted to put on a set of schallers but the screws Johan used seem to be much thicker than normal and the schallers are too thin to grab hold. And Johan's screws are too large to fit through the schaller button. Any ideas? I'm already extremely worried just playing this thing sitting down thinking it will slip off of my leg or something.

Are you talking about strap locks?

In that case: toothpick?

Beautiful guitar, by the way.

Cheers,
Wim

Dunlop, IMO, is the way to go.

Did you X-ray the guitar prior to purchasing, btw? :D Congrats on your new toy.

Thanks for the kind words. And many thanks to Wasyl at Hellhound guitars for getting this into my hands.

The pickups are wolfetones. I think it's his lowest wind version. I was a bit reluctant there because I do like to thow some gain on tap from time to time, but it's worked out great. I'm not sure if the low output has something to do with how responsive it feels, but if so, these are the P-90 pickups to get! :P

Ah, thanks - I'll look into the Dunlops. It's hard to gauge but the screws there look about the same as the ones Johan uses so that might work out. I guess otherwise I'll just put the default buttons on there and get one of those twisty plastic dunlop locks. I guess the toothpick thing is an option, and if it wasn't so expensive I would probably go that route, but I just can't bring myself to mess with that on this one. And yea, I'm saving the x-ray pics for when the issue is all but forgotten so we can get some more 100 page threads going ;)

Beautiful JG, congrats!
The "issue" you speak of however will forever be an 'issue' so might as well get used to that idea. Part of the landscape of owning a JG. "Solid or slotted"........the first question one asks.

Ehhh... not something I've ever worried about with mine. I recommend getting a good quality strap (like the Moody shown below) -- use it while sitting as well if you're nervous about that -- and everything will be fine unless you're a maniac on stage.

Oh, btw, JG uses very dark, old Brazilian rosewood boards on the Bluesmasters.

Stunning guitar... The top and finish oozes quality, but not too OTT...

I also would go with the Grolsch beer bottle sealer rings on the strap buttons.

Jason I'm glad you're digging the JG. The P-90's really impressed me when I first plugged the guitar in. So warm. I really wish I'd been hipper to that pickup configuration in the Bluesmaster years ago. I always wondered what it would be like. Enjoy... Wasyl

DARN! I wanted this guitar!!! Would be a perfect complement to my dynamic duo. I really like P90s, sometimes much more than hums!

i've used these for a long time... you don't have to remove the strap button to use them and they're easy to get on/off

by the way... love your P90 Bluesmaster! in fact, i was just admiring that very guitar today. glad you could get it! enjoy!

+1 on the Schaller strap locks. I now use them on all of my guitars and have been happy to see that several high-end guitars I've purchased include them as stock.

The toothpick suggestion sounds good as I've heard that before.
