Have you guys checked out the Mike Landau playing on youtube - excellent. I think he's playing his '63 fiesta red strat through a blackface pro. He also plays a tele type guitar with what looks like a P90 at the neck - not sure which brand.

Does anyone have a full breakdown of what he's using - especially his pedals? And is his amp stock?

I was at that show, almost front row. He used his standard pedalboard, with a DL-4 added and no MPX-1, Blackface fender. The Tele was a Suhr, he used that one almost all the songs, except for 4,5 songs on wich he used the old Red strat. He also had a Suhr strat, but he didn't use that one.

So was he using the SD9/Voodoo1 or an OCD?

I don't really know for sure, but with fender's most of the time he uses a Lovepedal COT 50 red instead of the voodoo-1

yea, I know recently he switched the Cot for an OCD.

Does anyone have any photos of his pedal boards? Or know where the best place is to find them?

FWIW - On an earlier TV special about James Taylor you can see Landau on stage with a Vox amp. It looked like an AC30.

He used a similar rig when he played James Taylor's 2008 US tour, except I think it was a Strat for the most part. JT called last year's tour "James Taylor and the Band of Legends" (or something similar) because he had his A-team band out...as he seems to have for the North Sea Jazz/Europrean tour this summer.

Btw, Mike didn't play the west coast leg of JT's 2009 tour called the "Back Home" or 'Down Home tou'r. A friend went to an Expensive JT winery concert a few weeks ago and reported JT's other/long time alternate lead guitar guy, Bon Mann was on guitar. Seems like everyone else was the same. So I guess when Mike Landau is onboard, it's the Band Of Legends:).

Prior to seeing Mke with JT last summer, I'd lseen him in Robben Ford's band on the club tour for "Truth" in 2007. On that gig he used the CAA OD rig...and played acoustic guitar some too. Whatever the songs needed to fill them out.

Great choice - imo - for Robben to change things up and bring out Landau instead of a keyboardist. Mike is the consummate sideman. Robben gave him a few spots to do some steppin out, and of course Mike can Burn when the opportunity is there. Seemed like 90-95% players at that gig, all were digging RF + ML.

What's the skinny on the modded old Arion? Anyone around here do that?

Truthfully I don't know. It was either someone here or someone over at the HRI forum that said when they saw James Taylor this past year, that Landau was using an OCD.
I think he would pretty much use either one as a lite crunchy rhythm tone for that tour.

Okay, for my fellow Landau freaks and gear hounds, here's a rundown of Landau's rig for the 2009 James Taylor shows:

Guitars:

- Fender '63 Fiesta Red (over Sunburst!) Strat
- Suhr Tele (P-90 neck pickup, Landau headstock, no SSC)
- Suhr Strat (SSH pickup config, SSC system, Landau headstock)
- Gibson Historic SG/Les Paul VOS (used for slide)

Pedals:

- Maxon SD-9
- Lovepedal COT 50
- Teese RMC 5 Wizard Wah
- Roger Mayer Voodoo-Vibe+
- Boss FV-500H
- Boss TU-12H
- Line 6 DL4 w/ expression pedal

Amps:

- Fender Blackface Pro Reverb ('64?, Celestion Heritage Series G12-65's)
- Matchless HC-30 (spare)

He didn't play the Suhr Strat or the SG at the North Sea show, from the videos I've seen.

Actually, it's just a true-bypass mod. Landau uses an SCH-1, not SCH-Z. He uses it in mono.

Thanks for the JT links!

...what a band! Landau, Jimmy Johnson, Steve Gadd, Larry Goldings! I'm not familiar with the other members...JT plays some nice Tele stuff on Steamroller...

Here's a link for a song that Andrea Zonn sings. She used to tour with Vince Gill. It's a lovely song with wonderful playing by Lloyd Green on pedal steel.

Are you sure he uses SD-9 for this show?
I watched the whole show side by side from here http://festivals2.radio6.nl/page/artiest/1737 .
and I couldn't find the green pedal from Mike's board.
Mike usually has his SD-9 on front end of it but there is some whitish looking object that looks a lot like OCD or RC Booster...

Mike did say on his myspace blog recently that he's using an OCD with JT at the moment. I wasn't sure if he had tried it out and reverted back to his SD9 or what.

I was at cowtown guitars in vegas yesterday and they have a 64 cherry 335 that Mike supposedly used to own. And it was unbelievable. amazing feeling and sounding guitar. Ok, If I sell my ts-9 ri and my lp studio, and,and .......I still won't be able to buy it. But one of the best guitars I have ever played down there.
