In 1971 I bought a "54 re-issue LP. In my youthful ignorance I replaced the P-90's with humbuckers and while it sounds great and has served me well through the years, I've decided I'd like to return it to it's original state.

Other than buying those HB sized P90's I'm sure a luthier could fill the routes and so on... what exactly am i looking at here?

the original studs are in place so it wouldn't be a problem to put a wraparound bridge back on like it was.

this is a killer playing LP with great provenance. For me to be satisfied it would have to be done by someone who appreciates what I'm thinking of doing and would view it as an enjoyable and meaningful undertaking.

Please PM me if you can help!

thanks

rob

Heritage Guitars are in Michigan??? If not them, start interviewing Luthiers in your area, tell them your concerns. There is probably aftermarket pieces to cosmetically deal with your guitar. First off, do you have the orignal P-90's? Are you trying to recapture the value of the guitar unaltered? The Humbuckers you have on it are valuable.

Her are a couple of reputable shops.

What you propose to do will probably quite expensive depending on how far you take it and how many original parts you have or need.

Gibson use to do this to LPs. It is pretty rare but is factory original.

I've done some digging and what i want to do really is cost prohibitive, damn.

To do it right mahogany needs to be press fitted into the routes for the body, and then the maple on top. Then a top refin is necesarry, too. Oh well.

I've got some rare lawrence hb's in there that were put in by Tim Shaw in 1972. I still think they sound remarkable, so ya live ya learn.

thanks for the posts, guys
