For those that don't know, Steve was a founding member of NRBQ. I'm proud to have known him, and proud to have been his neighbor.

This is truly a shame. What a great person and musician. They were truly THE hardest working band in the business!

Just read it in this morning's C-J. RIP, Steve.

Screamtone, did you go to the benefit at Stevie Ray's several weeks ago? I was there, played a few tunes with the opening act.

I met him a few years back at the NRBQ reunion and he didn't look well at all and was chain smoking. His playing however, was top notch. His death is a very sad thing...

That link isn't working - here is another with a GREAT clip. IMO, a very small fraction of the people that play the blues can really pull it off and have it seem as natural as breathing - he had that extra "something".

i had the pleasure of running sound for steve and his midwest creole ensemble at a louisville establishment many years ago. an amazing player and quite a nice guy too. he will be missed by many.

I watched Steve many times in Louisville back in the mid 90's... my band played the same venues and I often enjoyed his creole influenced swamp jazz shows...
I was too dumb and green to approach him at the time and hang out...He was an endless flow of the coolest ideas. He influenced me a lot without even knowing it.
