This has been a frustrating camera. The flash used to pop up in the bright sunlight, now it doesn't pop up at all, light or dark, even when I press the flash button. It should automatically pop up in P or auto mode. In the menu, the TTL is grayed out. I wonder if I should do a total reset?

Any owners or similar problems out there?

I've had issues with that stupid flash popping up in broad daylight on both my Olympus E-500 and my Nikon D-80. Seems to happen with no rhyme or reason. :huh Even in the "no-flash museum mode" sometimes it will pop up.

I'm not familiar with the D-70 but if the reset helps please post...

I can't help you with the flash, but I do recommend just getting and off the camera flash. or what I mean, one that mounts on the camera... they are 100x better than the popup flashes on the Nikons.. SB400 pretty cheap and really will improve your pics.. :)

AC what did you think of the E-500. I never had a good camera before and can get one cheap just to learn on.

I've had the same problem. I just press the button and lift it manually.

Travis, the E-500 is a great camera for the money! The drawback is the lenses are really limited as to what you can get. It was my first DSLR and served great for a couple years but I would suggest a Nikon D-40 instead as almost any Nikon lens ever made will fit on it. You can get D-40's dirt cheap and they'll do almost anything you'll ever need to do as an amateur photog.

I leave the Oly in my plane now and just use it for in-flight photos, still a great camera, just limited.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I've been dragging my feet on that one. Maybe that's what I'll do. Hopefully the shoe is still functional and hot, and will trigger the external flash.
