I got my eyes checked today, but some of the frames are close to $300. not including the lenses! Crazy!
I heard a while back about ordering on line for way less.
Can anyone recommend an easy to use site?

Framesdirect.com
Had wonderful dealings with them and saved over $100 over the mall stores.

zenni.com
get three pair of glasses for $100. Get colors to match your outfits....I've gotten about 10 from them so far (between me and my wife).

I've used Zenni once. The price was dirt cheap so I shouldn't have expected much but it took months to get my order and the glasses are pretty budget. I got anti glare coating and it was cracking/chipping almost from day 1.
I would say they're fine for a backup pair but I wouldn't use them as a main pair of glasses.
FYI, I used this site when researching online retailers. http://www.eyeglassretailerreviews.com/

I have a prescription that typically costs me $500 - $600 with frames at an optical store. I just had my yearly exam and I need a different prescription so here I go again. I hate the fact that eyeglasses are so costly. My wife suggested I try Costco. Well in stead of $300 + just for the lenses, they were $180. Comfortable frames were available from around $39 to $79. I ended up ordering a pair at $248 and a 2nd pair gets you a $30 discount, so I ordered a 2nd pair for about $200. I got both for less than I usually have to spend for just one
The people there were knowledgeable and did a thorough job of fitment.

Big +1 for Costco. The exam I got was very comprehensive the glasses fit perfectly and were aligned exactly (progressive bi-focals) and the price was exceptional.

Regarding mail order, I don't think I would go that route myself. I wear my glasses all the time and I'm finnicky about the fit and comfort. I guess it's a bit like a guitar for me, I know when I've found the 'right' one. Two frames of the same model, but one feels right and one doesn't, that kind of thing ~

Agree that Costco is excellent, however they are a bit limited in their selection. My wife pulled a 'hybrid' approach, and it worked out perfectly.
She went to a high-end boutique and tried on some frames, wrote down the exact make, model and size, went online and ordered the frames for $100 less, then went to Costco and had them do the lenses. Overall, I think she saved about $200.
