View Full Version : Why can't my MacBook Pro play YouTube without stuttering?

My brand new 15" MacBook Pro can't play YouTube clips without hiccuping. It's not a matter of buffering, it's simply stuttering playback. When I reboot into BootCamp (WinXP), the same YouTube clip, no matter the browser, plays fine (well, as good as YouTube is...).
What's weird is my AppleTV and iPhone play YouTube fine. It's just the MBP. BTW, using 10.6.1.
Thoughts?

Did you do an Apple Update? Maybe there's a problem with the AirPort drivers?

I know my old man's older MBP had a crappy AirPort card in it. Service guy at the Apple Service Depot here said it was a known problem. Apple ended up swapping it for him under Apple Care but it was a big PIA to convince them it was the AirPort card and not his home network or something like that.

Software Update claims there aren't any updates available. But, point taken. I need to connect via Ethernet and see how it goes.

thanks.

Do Macs have video drivers? Maybe just update the driver?

Oh, update Flash from Adobe. I don't think Flash updates come down via Software Update. Could be your Windows partition has a new version of Flash on it.

That runs fine for me. But I'm using a wired link on my iMac. I tried it both Firefox 3.5.x and the latest Safari. Both browsers ran it smooth. The ripples looks weird, but I think that was a video artifact thing. The people playing instruments looked fine.

Can you try this one?

Still seems choppy.

Smooth, I guess. That older video was a little shaky. But it was the source, not the player for sure.

take a look at your quicktime system preference...

set your cache a little higher and set your lan speed to the speed of the network you are on... if it is a cable modem or dsl set it to 1.5 mb...

that oughta square it.

..... and, "repair permissions".
(using the Apple "disk utility", in the applications folder.)

when was the last time you did that?

have you installed any software, since?
are you installing new software or updates, now?

what's the big deal?
if you'd updated QT, installed a Pro Update or etc etc etc,
Adobe Flash permissions are ripe for repair, i betcha.
(takes a minute or two, & certainly no harm is done, & no re-start required).

Repairing permissions did it. There were many Flash issues.

Kudos!
