Hey,
I just got an old Pioneer SA 6500 amp and i'm digging it but the left speaker keeps suddenly fading away and then fizzing back on, gradually. It does this randomly and i have noticed that if i move the record player and amp it'll come back on, but sometimes only for a little bit and go back out again.

I thought it was the crappy speaker wire i have, and then I thought it might be the left speaker itself, but i just noticed that it happens when i listen through headphones aswell...the left one goes off randomly.

Does anyone know what could be the problem? Amp? Cartridge?

I got a can of contact cleaner I feel like using.

Clean all controls. Most likley the PAN is that trouble. Do them all.

How exactly do i clean it? Do i have to open it up and spray contact cleaning from the back? or can i do it from the front

You must open up the chassie and take electrical contact cleaner [Deoxit 44 IIRC?] and spray it directley into the opening on the scratchy pot while turning it back and forth. While your in there do the same to all the pots, on-off, in and out buttons, and input and output connections.

yaya.

At best, fixed! At worst (prolly) works mostly!
