Does this look like ash to you?

It's all I have to go on, but even through the black paint, the wood is really grainy much like my ash Tele was. The guitar is a HotRod Strat and is supposed to be alder.

It's an 07 and maybe they offered ash in 07?

Maybe but that could easily be alder. Sometimes alder has nice grain.

I think it's Alder.

Both woods could show grain, but Ash is typically more porus, while Alder has a smoother texture.

Notice how pinkish the wood appears.

Ash is generally silver/white to blonde in color; the grain pattern may be similar to that but the pores will just jump right out at you.
