I'm really surprised this is not up here yet, maybe I missed it though.

What do you guys think? I think the augmented reality technology is really cool and the songs pretty solid too.

He's brave to re-use the backbeat to Seal's "Crazy". I think the song is pretty good
did anyone get that augmented reality thing???
Okay. I got it working. That is some cool shit right there!!! never seen that technology before.

Um, thats not the back beat to Seal's Crazy. No sir... Not. I can see where one would think that though as there are places where it sounds similar.
I dig it though. Ive always liked his voice.

Does that delay riff not remind anyone else of U2's "Bad"??
I'm a big Mayer fan. Love the song as a whole, but the solo was definitely lacking. :huh

what does it do? I was too lazy to wait for it to load
you have to get the logo, that you download from the page on to paper or on your phone or something. I downloaded it on my iPod touch. then you hold the logo in front of your webcam, and it activates the video. and when you move the logo on the ipod around, the stuff on the page moves with it.

It pains me to say this, being a huge fan of Mayer, but that song kinda bores me. I'm still excited about the album, but the first two cuts have not done it for me.
Sounds like Mayer went a little Beck on the solo? Never really heard him play like that... I think this album is definately a forward thinking album... more power to him for not releasing the same stuff every album.

I can't imagine ever wanting to listen to music by doing what you just described. But in the immortal words of Marty McFly ... "Your kids are gonna love it."

That's the one that we saw him doing the on the fly overdub/looping, right? That was sweet sounding.

It's going to be tough not to compare this new album to Continuum because that was such a solid album and in such a guitar-friendly format.
He has made it clear that this is going to be a pop album, so we may not get big dumble-ized solos we're hoping to get. I still think that based on what i've heard so far, this will be a great album with different direction and/or creative platform.
I like this song much better than "Who Says", which sounds like a watered down, lazily written version of "Stop This Train", IMHO.
Looking forward to hearing the studio cut of "Perfectly Lonely" which definitely has a pop-soul flavor going on.

Play for the song, not the solo. The Beck-channeling was ... unexpected ... but the note choice and phrasing is wholly appropriate. If nothing else, homeboy has always been an incredibly tasteful studio player.

Good tune. Not a huge "fan", but I'm always impressed with his ability to consistently write and record songs that sound great and feel fresh. I think another 10-20 years down the road, he will be embedded into our culture the same way Tom Petty, Mellencamp, etc. are now.
I like the "outta nowhere" solo in this tune.

This is kind of my reaction to these first two songs that have come out. I'm looking forward to hearing it, but the first two tracks are kind of boring.
This album is definately something different. Think the songs are cool. Not what I expected, but that's usually the point. Think this song will sound awesome on my iPod when walking through the city in the snow this winter. I like the solo a lot as well. He is doing something different then people would expect and is evolving into other styles. Just like you should do.

Yawn...we are going to get an album of well crafted pop, with love lost lyrics...there is NO JM3 blues action on "battle studies" from all the demos I've heard. I was hoping this release would be a stripped down, raved up blues rocker...guessed wrong, I did.

Can I say that I actually like the idea of the song...BUT...the lyrics are bland and are just too much like his other "if you want more love" type songs. I dig the music though - even the solo. Maybe he could sell this song to Coldplay?
And, I just don't get all the cursing in his music lately. John, you can get tattoos, curse, make drug references, and try to be a rock star but why keep trying to be "hard?" I just don't get it...

I really like JM's stuff, especially the Trio stuff, but this song sounds like "yacht rock" to me. If you don't know what yacht rock is, go to youtube.

+1 sadly. Heavier Things is my favorite album of his (slightly edging out Continuum), but I'm not feeling either song from this "return to pop" album. Probably be picking it up anyway though.
