If you were buying a PC just for DAW work and had a budget of $550-$650 what barebone system would you buy, and why
What Im looking for is the most CPU and RAM for the $$$.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Buy something in a Core2Duo used desktop, put 4 gig of Ram in, run XP....

Check out the Dell Vostro series. You can customize it however you want to fit into your price range. That's what I went with when I did my dedicated recording PC last year and I'm very happy with it.

I'd get an AM3 compatible motherboard, 80+ efficient PSU, and most importantly, a low power dual core (55W) AMD 2+Ghz CPU.
