I haven't ordered mine yet, but I'm about to. It'll be "6V6 GT" cuz I kinda like that tone.
Anyone else here on TGP have vanity plates? What are they?

When my brother passed, his car was handed over to me to keep it in the family so I thought it fitting.
BTW, you'd be amazed how many people don't know what it says!

Some pretty clever plates can be seen around my neck of the woods.
My wife would NOT allow me to get one I thought appropriate for her:

This is crazy, I was JUST talking about this with my wife. Texas just got a new optional design, and then I started talking about personalizing it. We're only allowed 6 characters, max, and I can't really come up with anything to go for my Mesa Triple Rect.
6L65U4 looks like a regular plate, but a gearhead would recognize it.
6L6X6 was another idea, though I wish you could have spaces.
RCTFIR was another one, but "fir" may be kinda hard to figure out -- maybe RCTFYR?
Thoughts?

Your reason for doing something like this would be money-wasting and attention-seeking so you project that onto everyone else? Wild, man. :bong
In fact, in my case, I confess, I don't mind any attention my own plate might get (probably none!). I also have gotten a good education and worked hard in my life so I can afford to waste $50 (not that it's actually wasted, it goes to the local jurisdiction's now-stressed treasury). However, I just dig seeing it - gives me a little lift every time I walk to my car - and, when you have a silver Honda Accord (they're ubiquitous!), it does help others find you in a lot. :)
P.S. I don't understand your forum handle (not that I understand my own either half the time, of course). ;)

Can't you dig, though, that some people do things like get tatoos, guitar inlay, and yes, even license plates, not primarily so others will understand it but because it's seriously meaningful to the individual?

Back in the 80's and 90's the personalized plate section at the Texas DOT had a massive collection of dictionaries from around the world, and another wall filled with books of international slang, all to keep someone from ordering a plate that might be objectionable. They said at least once a day they would get at least one application for the French word "merde". My all-time favorite that actually slipped by was "3MTA3", which was okay until you saw it in your rear-view mirror. Second place was the married couple that had "TAB-A" and "SLOT-B" , respectively.

In Ontario a vanity plate runs 225$. Ouch. But that's cheap compared to the UK where they pay thousands for shitty mis-spelled ones. I can't see paying that unless the spelling is perfect. Some dough heads get things like NVMEMAN, LIK2DANS and crap like that. I have my ham radio callsign on mine but these are only a few dollars more than regular plates because radio amateurs perform a public service. The coppers generally go easier on you too.

I've had 6L6-WGB for about 8 years. I have it on a silver Nissan Frontier with a silver cap. The truck actually looks a little like a tube, IMO. In the time I've had it, I've had about 3 people approach me who understood it. I've considered other tube designations for other cars in my collection of aged Japanese vehicles. I've never bothered to go to the effort. I don't think I've ever seen another tube designation as a plate.

I had music related vanity plates for several years. My plates were also veterans' plates. A couple of years ago, they redesigned the vet plates- and I decided not to renew my vanity plates- I got a decent plate number- that I liked. But I hated the plate. I got the vet's plates because they're distinctive. The new vet's plates were plain and boring. There was an outcry in veteran's groups and they re-redesigned the plates to a more distinctive design. But at this point it'll cost me to get the new plates AND I would be unable to get my license plate number back.

No vanity plate here, all the good Dead related acronyms are always taken, but I might go for something Zappa when it's time for me to register next year.
Funny plate story from NC. Last year the sample plate on the DMV website was WTF and four numbers. After a few days (and I think some actual plates were distributed) someone "upstairs" found out what WTF was an acronym for and they changed the website and put that on the list of plates not to allow.

Back in the early 80's a neighbor had a Buick Grand National. It was an awesome car but looked a lot like a Monte Carlo SS. The plate on the Grand National? "NOMONTY"
There was also an electric blue Z28 around town with the plate "BURNONE". I wonder how often he got pulled over due to that one.
I like the one I saw on a bright yellow VW bug the other day, "SUNBUG"
Here's some more I just thought of for TGP members:
NOSSNA = No Solid States Need Apply
SSNNA = Solid State Need Not Apply
NOSLDSTE = No Solid State
JUSTUBE = Just Tubes (don't you like the clever double use of the center T?)
OVRDRV = Over Drive
GOESTO11 = Goes to 11. Anyone who's seen Spinal Tap will get this one.
REVERB
TONEKING
BIGTONE = people might think your name is Tony
ABOX = great for an old Volvo and a tribute to that most used of scale positions
IIVV = The basic chord progression. Some states let you add "-" as characters so it could be "I-IV-V"
NOIIVV = calling for an end to the above
12BARS = Got the blues? Downside is people and cops might think you're a drunk and 12 bars is how many you stop at.
PNKGRN = Pickin' and Grinnin'
DROPD = that favorite metal tuning
PWRCHRD = oh yeah!
AGFACE = That's silver face, AG is the periodic table symbol for silver.

That's bad?
Yup. The next step after figuring out "Rectal Fire" is trying to figure out what it means. Is the driver saying they have a hot bottom? That they eat too much spicy food? That they have hemorrhoids? Any plate that be easily misread as declaration of the driver proclaiming they have hemorrhoids is bad in my book.
